Joel Wells

Joel Whitlock Wells, husband of Alexandra (Zan) Wells passed away Sunday, September 4th, 2022 at the age of 87. Joel was born November 26th, 1935 in Columbia, SC, one of two children to James Duncan and Maguerite Wells. In addition to his wife, Joel is survived by his children Skye Todd (Brad Holmes), Steve Dudash (Ellen), Tyna Todd, Erien Booker (Jim), Shan Lipscomb (Jim), Joel Norwood (Lynn), 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Joel was predeceased by his parents, his brother, and a grandson. Joel graduated from Dreher High School in Columbia, SC and was named Mr. Football in 1954. He went on to Clemson A&M where he played football and was an All-American. He was drafted by the Green Bay Packers, but went on to play for the Montreal Allouettes, then the New York Giants. He is in the Clemson Athletic Hall of Fame and SC Athletic Hall of Fame.

Good fiends with my parents growing up in Columbia years ago. One of a number of great backs during that time. Of course 4 of them in the back field at one time during the single wing and “T” formation days. RIP
