He was a product of his time.

He was bigger and faster than many LBs. The average OL wasn’t significantly larger than him back in those days.

Had he played in the 70s or after he’d be good but not great.

Put great modern running backs from the late 70s forward back in the Jim Brown days and their stats would be insane.

Brown’s image has also benefited greatly due to his politics and movie career.
