Jackson Carmen, his 2020 season is not

Oct 31, 2020, 10:34 PM

as good as 2019. I expected him to be elite this year but seems like every OL penalty is on #79. He has been holding a lot and on top he has been getting beat by much smaller DE's. I have watched the TE's and their support has been heavily off his left shoulder. He seems weaker this year, gets pushed around. I thought he could be a 1st round draftee after pretty strong year last year. Unless he toughens up, he better stay for 2021 to build some strength which appears to be his downfall.

TLaw was great at squaring shoulders on flush to left, but seems he always goes right now. If you remember rhe TD pass to Renfrow at GT game, then you know what I am referring too. So watching game today, DJ kept going right as well as ETN. If Carmen was mauling, ge would have backfield flowing thru him. Not sure why it seems like he is less than last year, but no way he is 1st rounder now. He needs to get better with remainder of year or he will need 2021 to get gis game in order.

Thoughts? Am I missing something?

I am with you. Seems like an off year after the past 2 years where he seemed well on his way to breaking the stigma against Clemson OL - I'm still hopeful he'll play his way into the 1st round.

However, this is an odd year so there could be more going on than we know or maybe other teams are doing better homework to attack JC and he hasn't been able to adapt as much.

I don't think we win NC if our OL don't get better quickly

Who knows how much normal training these guys have done this year. I think all of CFB is a bit sloppy this year, but I’m glad we have games to watch.

No doubt Im happy for college football. But I expected better play from him. His scoring each week has been really low, mid 50s to low 60s. He graded in 80s most of last year, 20pt drop in grading is bad.

That said, it can turn quickly but we haven't played the top teams to drive down.

If you recall, Carman was a lot out of shape his freshman year. He worked his tail off between freshman and sophomore years and it paid dividends. I imagine being sent home last spring due to COVID curtailed some of his workout regimen and his body is not as well conditioned this year as it was last year. It shows on the field. It also needs to be noted that he doesn't have Big John Simpson to his right this year so he may feel a bit more on an island as Bockhorst has to help the center a lot more than Simpson had to help Pollard last year.
