I’ve had a bad year with yellow jackets.

It started when my kids were driving their Power Wheels dune buggy around the back yard and she drove over a nest in the ground. My daughter was stung twice. Oh, it was the end of the World. The screams. I killed them.
They came back to another area. Stung me while I was cutting grass. I killed them.
Moved to my front yard. Stung me five times on my ankles while I was cutting grass. I’ve never seen so many in one place, circling above the nest. One of those stings was ridiculous and hurt for days where I could barely sleep. I killed them.
They moved to another area in my front. Got me again! I killed them.
My daughter sees one in the backyard. I spend an hour trying to find the nest. Found one crawling into our log retaining wall. I spray, poke, kill most. I kept poking and accidentally pull the entire face of the log off. At least a hundred come out and I run like a little girl. I kill them, gruesomely, and enjoy every second.
I have been stung at least 20 times this summer. I just recently found a lone yellow jacket in our backyard again. I sat for an hour trying to figure out where they’ve moved to now. No luck.
It’s time to exterminate this little buggers at 3:30 today.
Go Tigers.

Use meat tenderizer on a sting.

is when you disturb a nest and run, the little pests will follow you a long way. My son and I were moving some wood a couple years ago and upset some yellow jackets. We sprinted about 50 yards and jumped in the car and there were 2 inside the car and several on the windshield.

A long time ago, while doing field work for a surveyor, we ran into a YJ nest and got stung multiple times. Next day I stuffed a lit cherry bomb into the nest opening. Not sure how effective this was, but it sure made me feel good.

I was cutting grass with a riding mower, going in a straight line and made my turn. When I did, there was literally a black cloud facing me from about 20 ft. away. The cloud was circular and about 6 ft. In diameter, being at its highest elevation 6 ft. From the ground. It had to be at least 1000 yellow jackets to make such a cloud, which got darker toward the center. I stopped the mower and ran for shelter. It is easy to kill the entire hive. Just wait until night and pour a cup of gas down the hole. I know gas is high now, but it beats hell out of getting stung by a yellow jacket, whose sting is worse than that of a hornet. I've been stung by both, so I know.

I get better hives to the gallon than you, apparently. Really, it doesn't take much gas to kill the entire hive. Just make sure you do it after dark.

Boiling water kills the ones in the ground instantly as good as anything. They die when the temperature gets above 107 degrees. Just pour the water down about a gallon will kill them all in the hive.

It's the fumes that penetrate down in the ground. Half a cup of gas is plenty Believe it or not, in a tight situation, it's better to just turn and dive on the ground rather than run. The motion is what they attack.
The wanna-be yellow jackets you can just squish them between your fingers.
