It’s the players boys. Not just coaching

Oct 25, 2021, 9:08 AM

Bottom line is we don’t have the studs we normally do. Specifically on offense.

*Weak WR core- Can’t remember seeing as many drops as we have this year. Nobody is consistent.

*QB play- It’s now evident that we don’t have a solid consistent QB. I love DJ to death and think he’s a great young man but he isn’t what we thought he was. At least not at this point.

*OL- No surprise here. It’s been a weak point for years but mobile elite QB and RB play has masked much of it.

Solutions- We need to recruit more shifty and agile WR. 5’11”-6’1” range. Look at Bama. All their guys are around that size and absolute game breakers. Yes we need to keep some size on the boundary but need that more diversity size wise in our WR group.

We’ve got Cade coming in. Hopefully he will be ready to contribute early. In what I’ve seen he’s very outgoing and looks to have natural leadership ability. He’s also very mobile and capable of running as well as throwing. He will help us.

We’ve GOT to recruit better at OL. That needs to be a major priority. I know it has been but we just aren’t landing them. Has to be fixed.

Positive note to end on. Our RB group as a whole is best I’ve seen in years. I really love what we have in Pace, Shipley, and Mafah. We lost some transfers but the cream rose to the top. Those 3 are gonna be really good players for us.

Your receiver comments are dead on

I think we're weaker there now performance-wise than in 2017, when Cain and Ray Ray were the guys. Too many drops, not enough fight shown on the 50/50 balls. And agreed, we're missing that smaller, expert route runner that's always open and can move the chains. Renfrow and Amari put guys on skates and we don't have anyone that can do that now. Spector might have been the guy, but we lost him to injury. Maybe the injury we're feeling the most. I don't want to be a downer, but I'm worried about Stellato: he wasn't ready to play right away, and if you watch his film, he literally only ran two routes in HS 95% of the time. Not great signs for a guy you expect to be a route clinician.

I think its a combination of both due to injuries. But the offensive play calling has gone downhill substantially since Scott left. TE inherited good players that didn't need much coaching. Play calling is terrible since he left. South Florida obviously picked and hired the one who had the better resume. Even back to last year when TE had ETN and didn't take full advantage of his skills.
Changes need to be made in the assitant roles for sure.

We are largely signing good enough kids......

But need to be signing more. We don't "hit" on everyone.....we need to account for that. That's why we are having to rely on so many young players this year.

Our OL recruiting has actually improved last few years....but imagine a larger OL room with more quality depth....

guys like TL and Rogers hurts. However for me the part that makes coaching the question mark is that it's not that we stepped back on offense, we dropped off a cliff. They might not be the greatest players but there is still way to much talent to be one of the worst offenses in the country. I could handle it if they were just mediocre or not good, but this offense is putrid.

Offense be this year if Trevor was the QB with ETN and Amari and a few other players missing from the lineup? With his special skills we would be better than what we are now but I’m not sure we would be world beaters! DJ does not appear to me to be the kind of leader who will make everyone a better player. TL had those skills ... I think.

The token appearance that TP had Saturday didn’t tell us much. I don’t think it told the coaches very much either.!

Right now, it's just a little bit of everything. Sometimes, it's just not your day, and in this case, it's not our year. We have the talent and the coaching, but we are just besieged by mistakes from all areas and lots of bad luck with injuries and questionable officiating. And now it's mental. The players honestly believe they're going to screw up because of how everything has gone so far. We can complain all we want, but it we really just have to wait for it to work itself out.

Who recruited the players?
Who signed them?
I am missing your point
