It's Sad That the Bama and Clemson Fatigue

are eerily portrayed in the sports media as "oh woe is me, other teams need to have a chance". Blah blah let's make a 300 team playoff including FCS and DIV III so everyone is included. How bout we just let the process play out. Clemson was able to rise from a few decades of mediocrity, so can other teams, if they get the right culture and commitment.

Part of the problem is it's on us, too.
We can be elite but still miss a playoff with just 4 teams.
I used to be WAY against expansion, but I've come around on it. Bottom line, we're in a golden age of the sport & there's more competition from coast to coast than ever, it's the elite teams that rise up. We have huge advantages here in the ACC & I think that bugs many, but you're right, Clemson was a middle-tier team for a long time before Dabo turned us into a program that can consistently compete with blue bloods & elite programs.

What is funny is that other conferences are just as "stable". OU is normally the nominal playoff participant. OSU is normally trying to do their best Jawja impersonation. ND likes to lurk as the defacto PAC12 representative.
It isn't like you have a mass of Texas, Meechigan, Ped State, UCLA, etc lining up product.
If anything, despite Clemson/Bama, both the SEC and the ACC are the only conferences that have put three teams into the playoff (Clemson, FSU, ND) and (Bama, LSU, Jawja) meanwhile only the B10/PAC12 can claim two with that miserable showing my Meechigan State/OSU and Oregon/Washington. The B12 can only claim one rep.

ND is not in the ACC for football. Therefore, the ACC has only had 2 representatives just like the B10/Pac12. Don't let the facts get in the way of your argument though =)

Although I agree with the sentiment. Technically they were ACC last year, counted in the record books and even "played" for the ACC title. They for all intensive purposes, an ACC team.

ND played in the ACC championship game last year. It counted for one year. They could have represented the ACC as champion had Clemson not won that game.
So there is that.

I'm not sure why you are arguing this point.

Notre Dame was a member of the ACC in football last year. They were also in the playoffs. Thus, they count as an ACC team in the playoffs.

I don't mean to argue...I do not disagree that ND played under the ACC logo last season due to unprecedented circumstances.
I was replying to original poster...I do not think it is accurate/appropriate to thump chest saying ACC had 3 schools make playoffs...when one of those schools is ND. In a normal year, ND would not have played in ACC Champ game and still made the playoffs as independent last season.

I wasn't thumpin' my chest or waiving the ACC banner...lol, I ain't SEC. And you definitely don't thump one's chest about ND playing for a title, but at least they scored a touchdown this time right? The ACC patch added 14 points, no?
I don't disagree with the sentiment that ND isnt a "real" ACC team - and I am not counting their 2018 run, but they technically were "that" year and they did make the playoff with an ACC sticker. I am such an ACC purest, I consider UVA an "expansion team".
However, back to my point is that while the "rest" of the nation might have fatigue, ironically, the dominant conferences (ACC/SEC) also have featured the most diversity in teams.
Lol, and I am one of Judges sentient burner accounts.

As long as the PAC12 & BIG12 never produce another elite team again we'll be fine and won't have to worry about there only being 4 playoff spots. Fingers crossed I guess, but a 12-team system helps us not get eliminated, too.
