Can our D get to Winston and FSU and disrupt them?

Oct 6, 2013, 8:05 AM

Forgive me for looking ahead BUT this FSU game is going to be the biggest game in Clemson since the Puntrooski game in 1988.

Go Tigers!!!!

its our corners that worries me

most. Not that they have been playing bad, but because Winston loves to go deep. FSU has tall receivers who are very physical and have gotten used to Winston breaking out the pocket. It will up to our Dline to bottle him up to give our DBs help In deep passing situations. Even with that heavy burden being places on our outfield however, i do love our chances.

The key to this game (defensively) is our DL rotation and forcing FSU to pass. We have several backup DL that are starters on most teams. Shaq Lawson is without a doubt the best backup DE in America. If FSU cannot run the ball, our DL will eat them alive. This game sets up nicely for a Venables style defense. Winston is a fantastic young QB. However, I'll take a 5th year senior in this game. It will be a huge factor.

corners are fine. Worry about the safties

Certainly.

FSU has played nobody that can cover their receivers. There's always been two guys open for JW to throw to. A little coverage and our pass rush and they'll roll over like a bich.

Remember how ESPiN touted UM's defense all week? Well, that clearly was all hype to get viewers looking at the game. FSU is being hyped though they are nearly as talented as uGAY on defense and probably a little better on offense at every position except QB and a few spots on offensive line.

In the 1st half, Mary's D was doing an admirable job

But gave up a td late before halftime.

Then they apparently didn't show up in the 2nd half, but I didn't watch that. I took a nap getting rested up for our game.

They gave up after they lost their QB

The game was over.

Our crowd can do a TON to help our Defense in this game.....

At the Doak, I think they toast our D....In the Valley....we have a chance to to really affect the Freshman.

we better put every kick-off through the endzone.***

FSU is very good! Can play with the best no doubt. I have noticed they startslow. If we can keep our tempo of scoring fast and often will negate any chance of the noles to compete. I say this because its in DV. In Doak they would have a chance to play catchup. Good rotation and pressure on top of the crowd will take them out of this game early!

May start rusty after an off week, as well***

It will be up to our front seven to get pressure going. If Jameis can sit in pocket or if he gets a chance to run, it will be a shootout.

My son noticed that

Oct 6, 2013, 10:54 AM

Winston is setting up deeper than most QBs to throw. If he sets up 8-10 yards back our DEs, particularly Beasley, will have a field day.

Mary-land

Oct 6, 2013, 11:10 AM

Please remember that Mary-lands offense was set back due to a cheap shot by FSU. Therefore they were unable to get any offensive rhythm or yards. This let FSU get the ball back faster and more often to score more. They are obviously very very good, but don't let their score against Mary-land fool us.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

But Maryland couldn't stop Winston, and that's what counts

Oct 6, 2013, 12:06 PM

I didn't see the game, but it looks like they allowed Winston all the time he needed ( 1 sack??). The way to beat FSU is to cause a young QB to make mistakes in your favor, not out play their defense, which is good. And we've got to see more of our D-backs top game like what we saw yesterday from guys like Breeland.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

FSU's Oline is pitiful

Oct 6, 2013, 12:00 PM

As long as we shut down the run and force the pass, we will win. This Famous guy or whatever his name is is a good QB and has an excellent arm, but he is immature to the pressure. He doesn't know how to handle it and it stresses him out. With the best DE in the country being Vic Beastley tearing after him every play, we can do this. As long as we hammer down the pressure on their OL we will force this kid to make mistakes. We will beat FSU.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The most pressure he has seen was BC

Oct 6, 2013, 12:10 PM

So we can show him an entirely new level of pressure. That is the key. And I agree, young QBs WILL make mistakes. You just have to keep forcing them and they will eventually come. Then you take advantage of as many as you can.

And I think we've got to rely on more than just Beasley. Crawford and Lawson and maybe Jarrett will need to step up too. Especially now that Jones is out.

Re: Can our D get to Winston and FSU and disrupt them?

Oct 6, 2013, 12:07 PM

Looking at their games, I have yet to see a true running game. If Winston has little-to-no pressure, he can be deadly. I think we can get enough pressure to slow him down. I'm sure BV has a defense planned that favors them passing.

And really, many of his passes are not all that good, but when they are good, they are great. He is still a rs-freshman and makes similar mistakes. He has a puzzled look on his face numerous times. Our D should be okay if we rattle him. Dumbo fisher will be of little help in those situations. All he does is scream at his players hoping they improve.
