checked, there are TWELVE games in a college football season. Cancelling a series like Oklahoma-Oklahoma State, or Clemson-South Carolina is just WRONG.
It may finally be time for the state legislature to actually mandate that these schools continue to play each other. (It is NOT required by law at this time.)

Sick of seeing college football traditions which are the best in ALL of sports continually getting crapped on due to money. Stg greed is going to ruin the only sport I got left that I actually care about lol.

I would assume that our politicians in Columbia would step in and do something to ensure the game continued each year. There currently is no law on the books requiring the schools to play each other, but if there was any chance the series could be cancelled I believe the law makers would put such a law on the books.

Don’t need the state legislature to get involved. Suppose they also mandated that we had to also play Furman, SC State, Coastal Carolina, The Citadel, Newberry, Erskine, PC, etc.
Getting any kind of government involved in college football scheduling would be awful.

Yeah. How good has government involvement been for college football and NIL? It's good the players get a chance to earn money but the door for cheating was opened and many are taking advantage.

College football is a mess. Getting a state government involved in something like this, namely, something "superficial" (mandating rivalries, as opposed to say, having the National Labor Relations Board run NIL, stipends, and so forth (or something on the fiscal level)), might be the only thing that can be done to save college football from itself - from becoming the dumpster fire it's becoming.
I get what you're saying though. Generally government involvement has a corrosive, not a restorative, effect. That said, the government is already involved in college athletics, just not directly at the "competition" level (scheduling, playoffs, conference alignment, etc), but on the legal and financial levels, with Title IX and so forth - not just funding, but also a whole host of regulatory elements in the orbit of that. I'm not eager to see more of this kind of "serious" (i.e. deep) involvement on things like "civil rights," funding, regulatory schemes, and so forth. But given they already do that and aren't about to stop, if they could unconventionally dip their toe into an area of less conventional "governance," and prevent college football from eating itself alive by preserving some worthy traditional rivalries, I'd be thrilled. We are after all, talking about state governments in this case.

If they wanted to continue it, they would make it happen.
