When thinking about this year's team, how much do you factor

Oct 31, 2022, 2:10 PM

in the fact that we, for the first time in Dabo's tenure, we had to replace 3 key elements of our coaching staff?

One strength that Clemson has benefitted from over the years has been staff continuity. Staff continuity is a separate factor from coach quality. I believe that this may be partially responsible for a lot of the inconsistency we see across the board from our team.

The defense is talented, but was fine-tuned for a particular defensive philosophy. I have been scratching my head about the defense this year. Supremely talented, but we seem even more inconsistent with a full depth chart than we did with missing pieces. Having injuries is an obvious reason for inconsistency, but when we had all hands on deck for FSU and Syracuse and we can't put together a whole game... with such high talent, after 8 games.... you start to think about coaching.

And coaching quality comes to mind.... but then there's also staff continuity. I wonder how much of a factor that has been.

None, he should’ve went outside for the hires, shouldn’t have any friends, the Daniel staff are getting positions next year, and we can’t compete with anybody. I think I finally figured out how to do this properly ??

its definitely a factor but

I also feel like we dont necessarily have that demonstrative vocal leader on either side of the ball like we have had in the past. I also dont think we honestly have elite talent at the WR or QB position right now. Combine that with pretty vanilla play calling on both sides of the ball and it just looks discombobulated at times.

Im specifically referring to the inconsistency.

Last year WR's were just bad. The whole year.

This year they look good, then bad, then good.

But mostly I'm thinking about the defense.

DL looks dominant, then mediocre, then LB play is elite, then gaps are missed for 2 quarters straight, DBs playing with their eyes, DB's getting abused.

The last two games have been head-scratchers on D in particular.

The DL has been covering for injuries in the secondary for much of the season. We haven’t been blitzing all out like we did when Venables was the coach. We’ve played a lot of prevent the big play defense.

I believe that’s what Dabo said needed to be done until we were well and grown up in the secondary.

Our tackling has been poor at times but I think they are trying to prevent targeting calls instead of wrapping up at the ankles on big boy RB’s.

Clemson really blew it with the Dabo hire, when they didn't even interview one T'netter. Now he's blowing it for not tapping into our obviously superior minds.

Well, it's typically a strategy implemented when a poster can offer no evidence to the contrary. It's pretty weak but not as p¡$$ poor weak as the Dunderhead Numb Nuts statement: "30-0, no one knows losing better than you"-

Some experience, but a lot of youth and much growing pains
