Well, hopefully his son can develop into a QB so the new guy doesn’t have to work so hard. I don’t think anyones mad at Brent if he takes the job. They’re throwing more money at him than he deserves as an unproven HC, and he may never get the opportunity again.

Eh, not really worried if it’s perceived as classy or not. Just calling a spade a spade.
In regards to Brent leaving, I would think that that would be the given perception on the matter. You can’t begrudge a guy for taking a promotion if they’re throwing hay much money at him.

Why? Because I made an remark about someone’s bad play? Did I personally attack him? Did I call him a name or anything? Or is criticism, of any kind, just not classy in your book?

Exactly. You took a statement from a players’ father about our DC and turned it into an opportunity to bash his son. Why, other than to be a jerk?
We’ve all got criticism of DJ’s play this year, but actual fans can attest to his progression as well. You didn’t do either here.

I didn’t attest to progression, because frankly, it wasn’t there in regards to DJ. He still holds onto the ball far too long, resulting in sacks. Is hesitant to run. Stares down the first read, and panics when it’s not there. Has a TD:Int ratio at about 1:1 and near 50% completion. That’s not progression. Maybe that’s a discussion for another day though and I’ll hold off on criticizing DJ until a thread about that.

-Hesitant to run - sprained knee -Holds the ball too long: Sacked progressively less throughout the season -Stares down 1st read: review his stats - start to season finish, acknowledge attrition at WR and OL. He ain’t perfect but he did improve. -Completion percentage and turnovers: see above and acknowledge sprained finger.
Again, we’ve all got criticisms of his play, but throwing shade and doing so opportunistically is what to expect from the chickens. Not Clemson. Do better.

He was hesitant to run since the first game, not something that occurred when he sprained his knee. He was sacked progressively less throughout the year because the online improved, and staff realized that they needed to ride the RB’s if they were going to win. The offense went less through him and more through the trio. There was a lot of OLine and WR attrition throughout the year, however, the oline play got better. I haven’t been impressed with our WR play since Grisham took over, and that is a major weakness, but he was wildly inaccurate and that was well before the splint.
We do all have criticisms of his play, and I’ll refrain from calling them out until we’re on a thread about our QB play. Hopefully it’s a moot point and Cade comes in and lights the world on fire.

word in sports. Basically all you have to do in sports to be called “classy” is not be a total ahole. It’s a very low bar.
“Family” ranks up there too in sports.

Calling out back play is not being disrespectful. If I said something personally insulting about him, that would be another story.

Sorry it doesn’t meet your standards keyboard warrior. I’ll refrain from any criticism so that I don’t draw the ire of someone, who by point count, spends way too much time on a message board.

I’m not really keen on any of our defensive position coaches individually. He was the cog that made it work. aOSU game last year proved if he couldn’t get a call in from the sidelines they didn’t know what to do.
I will be pulling for him (like ai pull for Jeff) but Clemson won’t recover from this to the same place nationally.

Well, after the year we just had offensively .. no room for the defense to regress. We won’t have Brent to bail the team out next year ..

How would you expect players to know what to do on a play if they’re taught to wait on a play to come in to tell them what to do? That’s like expecting a receiver to magically know which route to run on a play when he wasn’t told which play the offense is running.

Point was how central he was to the scheme

From a play calling perspective, there are still basic rules in your coverage based on the personnel on the field. He had to read the field and his call was likely a trigger for 3-4 players’ actions on the field. And that seemed to be the difference in success in that game. I’m just less confident that any of the existing position coaches could execute the same.
