Hope you ACC fans are enjoying this....

I hope you ACC fans and supporters are enjoying this showing by our wonderful ACC teams at this point. Their play gives our schedule and wins absolutely no creditability and will probably keep us from playing in a BCS bowl game. At this point, our team is very capable of going 11-1 however with the lack of competition we play it doesn't really matter. We'll get to go to Atlanta and play in the good ole Chick-Fila bowl against the 5th best team in the SEC. So siked about this one!**sarcasm if you can't understand*** If this is the respect we get now, just take a moment and think about the respect we will get when ESPN starts deciding the final 4 teams in the playoff each year. So how about next time we start talking about leaving this conference, yall keep your mouth shut and let those looking to further this university proceed with the necessary changes.

I can tell you, with the way things are going, if we end up 11-1 and its between us or a Big 12, Big Ten, Notre Dame, or PAC 12 team we will be left out. I'm leaving SEC out because they will of course have two teams already in the BCS games.

i don't give a rip about the acc conf. as a whole, just about us. i heard the same thing in 1981, way before the bcs. if we take care of us, 99 out of 100 times, things will work out. even the sec isn't immune to being left out.(see terry bowden's auburn team)

I disagree, this is how I see it playing out:
League Standings: BAMA beats UGA in SEC ORE (takes care of Stanford and Ore St) beats (USC, UCLA, or AZ) K-State wins the Big 12 (2nd to OU or WVU) Someone wins the Big 10 Louisville wins the Big East FSU wins the ACC Notre Dame loses no more than 1 game
Big 10 is only getting 1.
Big 12 and Pac 12 are only getting 2 if one of their teams play in the championship game. Which will probably only be 1 of those two, not both. which is a total of 3 spots taken by those 2 conferences.
SEC is getting 2.
Big East is getting 1.
Notre Dame is in, even with 1 loss.
Which leaves 2 spots. I don't think any non-AQs will get in this year.
ACC is getting 2 if Clemson ends up 11-1 and FSU wins conference.
ACC is getting one IF: Florida State loses again and Clemson wins the ACC, and K-State plays Bama or ND in the Championship game, OR Championship game does not include SEC team.
This year, Clemson will be chosen over OU, Oregon St, Stanford, or USC and the only question is do the bowls pick Clemson over FSU if FSU loses in the ACC Championship game.
The second ACC team will be in the Sugar vs. the SEC team.

This is how I see the BCS breaking down at this point with the 10 spots
Auto Qualifiers SEC Champion Big 10 Champion Big East Champion ACC Champion Big 12 Champion PAC 12 Champion Notre Dame (Top 8 BCS) Boise State (as long as they finish in the Top 15 ahead of the Big 10/Big East Champ)
This leaves 2 Spots
The selection for the at large this year goes Fiesta, Sugar, Orange. Because the Sugar will lose Alabama to the NC they get the #1 pick and the Rose will get the #2 pick making the order Sugar, Rose, Fiesta, Sugar, Orange meaning there are 5 at large picks (one of which is the Big East Champ). I think they will look like this.
#1 Notre Dame #2 SEC Replacement (say UF for right now) #3 Open Pick #4 Big East Champ (say Louisville for right now) #5 Boise State
This gives us
National Championship Alabama (#1) vs Oregon (#2)
Sugar Bowl Notre Dame (#1 at large) vs Louisville (#4 at large)
Rose Bowl Big Ten Champ (no idea at this point) vs Florida (#2 at large unless they opt for a Pac team to replace Oregon which USC would be very likely)
Fiesta Bowl Kansas State (Big 12 champ) vs #3 At large (this is the spot Clemson would have to compete for)
Orange Bowl Florida State (ACC Champ) vs Boise State (#5 at large)
I do not like our chances at all even at 11-1

So basically right now there are two spots open that will go to SEC #2/ACC #2/Big 12 #2/PAC 12 #2
This is really what needs to happen for Clemson to go to a BCS game since I believe that the SEC #2, Oklahoma, and USC will all be taken in front of an 11-1 Clemson team since the two bowls that will most likely be picking are out west
1. Clemson must win out 2. Boise State must drop a game (not looking likely) 3. Notre Dame must beat USC dropping them out of the BCS Top 12 4. Oklahoma needs to drop another and hopefully the are outside the BCS Top 12 5. SEC needs to clog the top 12 in the BCS standing limiting the at large picks of the BCS games

Well, to her credit, she does seem to know more about football than you.

Yes, developing a phrase that essentially means "effing up your entire season by losing to an inferior opponent," naming it after our school, and then attempting to incorporate it into standard football lexicon would seem to indicate copious amounts of respect on their part.

Every team in America loses some games to teams they're expected to beat. Happens every Saturday.
In any case, Clemson is one of the nation's most respected teams. They're 13th in the latest BCS poll; if we continue winning, then the respect for our program will garner a BCS bowl game.

That is why the polls are such a crock! The last year is not supposed to have any effect on this years poll yet they put out a poll based almost solely on last year. They should not have a poll until October! No actually they should have a poll whenever but then have full blown playoffs like every other sport on the planet and determine a champion on the field! We have put up with this CRAP far to long!

what the OP is missing is that we had a chance to beat a very good FSU team - and did NOT!
If we played really good teams - we wouldn't even sniff at a 11-1 season. Please don't insult my intelligence and pretend that we are really that great. We have beaten absolutely NOBODY that is worth a chit. You're complaining about something that we couldn't get even if we played all Top Ten opponents. If we get a BCS bowl game, it will be because we're 11-1 and the other BCS eligible teams get beat. Not to be nauseating and so realistic, but we have so many weaknesses, it's amazing we are 7-1.

I don't think we should have lost to anyone to be honest with you, but my point is that it doesn't matter because we are 7-1 and no one cares. Our wins are against teams that haven't lived up to the standard and I don't see these teams getting any better. I'm just wondering what will happen when we do start winning all our games. Will we receive the respect? I don't think we will due to the status of our conference. I think we'll be left out.

Well be fine in the new system. If we are undefeated in the ACC we will be in the top 4.

We will never be left out IF we win. The ACC had TWO BCS

bids last year. we will never get left out of the BCS after going undefeated or just losing 1 game. We need to worry about winning 11 regular season games before we concern ourselves with how good or bad the conference is or isn't.

Go back to Cootville! You are pathetic! Your Gamecocks have not beaten anybody. Georgia and Fla just showed that neither one of them are nearly as good as advertised. I think they had 47 turn overs between them. cant pass cant run. And sc was no better against Tenn.

I tell you what....I'll let it play out and re-evaluate my comments at the end of the year. Its just hard to believe things will improve at this point. I just really need us to kick South Carolina's butt and get things back to normal.

I like the ACC. If we are truly concerned about strength of schedule, we can add strong teams in our non conference slots. Dropping all IAA off schedule drastically helps in the computer rankings. Replacing IAA with someone like ECU, or a MAC team would help us in the computers. Boise begs everyone to play them an no one will. We could easily add a long term deal with them to our schedule. The question is "do we really want to play a strong schedule?" I dont think we do. I think we should play as easy as possible and be sure to run the table.

We didn't close the deal against FSU, but that's no one's fault but Clemson's.
And since no more than two ACC teams could go to the BCS anyway, an 11-1 finish and at-large in the Sugar is far more than 95 percent of the teams in the county ... no matter what their conference ... could hope for, I'll be happy with that.
Now, if you're saying 11-1 won't get us that at large (or into the Orange if FSU should falter) I will bet you right here and now any prudent sum you wish to lose on that prospect.

If CU goes 11-1, they will be in a BCS game

If you don't see that, you need to reassess, because many teams in front of CU still have to play each other and losses will ensue.

Undefeated in a weak Conference?

The lack of respect of the ACC is because of Clemson’s play as well as the other teams.
I agree the ACC as a whole is pathetic but when was the last time Clemson swept the WEAK ACC? Losing to Gamecocks 3 in a row Giving up 70 in a bowl game
I find it odd some people call the ACC a cakewalk, and then say it would be too difficult to add quality OOC games instead of Ball St. & Furman—How about OOC games vs UGA, USC, Texas A&M & TCU?
If the ACC is a cakewalk, you don’t need more cakewalks in the OOC games
The best way to regain some respect is to be willing to take on quality OOC teams and WIN!

There is no way to know 5+ years ago when these games are contracted that Auburn, nor the ACC, would stink this season..

UGA (Auburn or UF), ##### along with Texas A&M & TCU

I stated UGA (or Auburn or UF), ##### along with Texas A&M & TCU
or Baylor, Texas Tech, Ok St., etc...
2 SEC & 2 BIG12 I would like a presence in TEXAS & FLORIDA for recruits
After all, as stated earlier on this post, the ACC is a bunch of cupcakes. May as well schedule some decent OOC games.
No reason Clemson could not win any of those games and would not only strengthen our schedule, but would also give the fans a reason to get excited for those games.

/\ /\ /\ EXACTLY! When's the last time an ACC showed up & made a decent showing in a BCS bowl game?!!
Yeah, some games are scheduled "5 years out & we don't know how good they'll be", but, by God, we know how good Ball St & the Furmans will be 5 years out! Come on Clemson, schedule some BIG BOY OOC games! And ACC, get some BIG BOY schools in the conference! But then again, they slowly go down hill...see Miami, Fla St, VT.

It ain't that easy.... maybe bake sales and car washes could make a dent.... better solution is if the ACC as a whole steps it up ... We're good, FSU good, VaTech USED to be good .... Miami has potential, and the N. Carolina teams are getting better .... Notre Dame is coming.... maybe we can get Penn State .... how about swallow the pride and get WVU? I like WVU....

If we were in the Big 12 or SEC we very likely would have more than 1 loss, so it's a pointless argument.

So your point is we can't beat FSU and NCSU can?
Oct 28, 2012, 9:30 PM
|

Conference power can be cyclical like the market. Swofford bought MIA and FSU at peak performance. The ACC has currently has four or five competitive not great football teams ... but one day the ACC will be back.
IF Clemson wins each game in ACC by 20, and whips UGA and SC next year in a 2013 undefeated season, then we play in the Natl Championship game. That is what it takes! All this crying and moaning about conference affiliation when our defense is currently 3rd tier and uncompetitive completely misses the point. I love the Tigers, but how did that BCS bowl work out for us last year against a WVA team that has been a whipping boy in Big 12 this year?
IMHO when we're ready we will get a shot. Until then lets beat South Carolina and the bowl opponent we do play.

real. Not like the previous coach. Those 6 games look like a huge boost now, huh? Getting ND to play 3-4 big games in coference a year is a good fit, imo. Nobody is getting ND full time while their on top.

If we cant win in the "down ACC" then we are probably not going to "win" in the SEC or Big 12.
Lot of truth in that. I also think each conferece has its ups and downs. ACC is down right now. But it will be back in time. You know you cant keep Miami honest for long.

As said before, if CU wins out, will definitely be in a BCS

game.
Currently 13th with 5 SEC teams ahead and only 2 can make it. Also, several teams ahead will still lose at some point.
CU is actually really 10th in the current pecking order if you allot all the possible available BCS berths to teams in front.
CU wins out, CU makes a BCS bowl - Period.
