Pretty cool comment by Paul Johnson about the Tigers!

Oct 4, 2016, 8:31 PM

sports
Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson is a firm believer that “commitment has to meet expectations.” And within the framework of that belief, Johnson doesn’t feel that Georgia Tech has the “same thing” that Clemson does.
The Tigers beat Louisville on Saturday to move to No. 3 in the polls. The week before, Clemson defeated Johnson’s Yellow Jackets.
“No matter what you do — and this is like I tell our team about playing — commitment has to meet expectations,” Johnson said. “You can’t have expectations without commitment. It won’t work. No matter what you do. So if you say you want to be on this level, then you have to be committed to be on that level and you have to do what those people are doing. Simple as that.”
Johnson was immediately asked if he felt commitment was matching expectations at Georgia Tech.
“I don’t know that anybody gets that. You can ask that about anybody,” Johnson said. “But what I’m saying, you guys look, you don’t have to ask me — Do you think we’ve got the same thing Clemson does?”
The response was that not many teams have what Clemson has.
“Then how can the expectation be to beat them?” Johnson asked to silence.
The Tigers, who went to the College Football Playoff in 2015, are currently amid building a $55 million football facility. Georgia Tech, which went to the Orange Bowl after the 2014 season, has 11 football staff members (outside of coaches) to Clemson’s 25 according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

It’s very fair that Georgia Tech’s football commitment will be a big topic between Johnson and new athletic director Todd Stansbury, who recently left Oregon State . Stansbury is a Georgia Tech graduate.
The ACC also has six teams in the current top 25. After losing to the Hurricanes (No. 10) on Saturday, Georgia Tech, 3-2, is not one of those six.
“This is not the old ACC,” Johnson said. “Ten, 15, 20 years ago, there might be one ranked team. And now you have six. Every week there’s pretty good teams. People have committed, for whatever reason the other schools have committed to it. To have a good program.”

It's a shame, that's about as much as he can say publicly

or else he could be making it easy for some people in powerful positions to wish him gone.

On the other hand, there are VERY few people (I can not stress how few) that could have sold enough hope to the administrators, school board, donors and his own coaches and players that we had to abort the old way of doing things. Every aspect of the program had to be a cog in a much bigger machine. Each part important. no stone left unturned. And, invest in the program and do things differently to get the results were all wanted.

I don't think Paul Johnson is one of those people who has a vision for an all encompassing program.

Dabo can see the entire picture, not just a portion of it. And, he can sell it too!!

Paul Johnson is a GREAT coach in a tough position: he cannot reach his ceiling as a coach because the resources aren't behind him. Had Tech committed early on to the program when he arrived, they would be a force. Now, they are wallowing in mediocrity like Clemson under Bowden as they cannot get over the hump.

I still say he would kill it at Nebraska.

Even if he gets all the facilities, can he recruit

elite players to play in his system? What's the biggest issue blocking GT, facilities or running an old system...

Very cool to see the respect Clemson gets.

Stating this the way he said it puts a lot of pressure on the new AD - NOT COOL. He should never put his AD in that position, and I can almost guarantee that it won't go like PJ thinks it will. That new AD will probably fire him soon.

What he said is correct, but it won't change a thing at GT. They are a has-been in football, and it won't change anytime soon. Their fans are in for many disappointments for many years. Maybe they're good at women's BBall.

so in other words -- Ga Tech needs to commit to a NEW Coach

Oct 4, 2016, 10:35 PM

??

is that what he's saying --- because that #### PJ is pushing is a fine team -- but it ain't going to the football playoff, much less the NATTY !!!!

How do you keep Gamecocks out of your yard?
• Put up goal posts
What does a Gamecock grad call a Clemson Tiger grad in 2 years?
• Boss

IMHO Johnson will land at AF Academy or Army in future

Maybe back to Navy ...
