Way to go Clemson students

Sep 5, 2015, 8:50 PM

Love the way you bailed out at halftime. Leaving all the recruits that were sitting with you to watch the game on their own. That's the Clemson way I guess. The players work their a$$ off all week and really deserve a little more than that. If your social life is that important to you perhaps you chose the wrong school, This was the most sickening thing I have seen at Clemson in years.

Dude, half the stadium left at halftime.

early in the 1st quarter heard a guy down from me say

Sep 5, 2015, 9:01 PM

"Well, the students have somewhere better to be again today".

Looked over at a half-empty Section AA and a 3/4 empty Upper Deck Section A, and couldn't help but nod in agreement.

As some of the local radio hosts have said, it's time to just give up on our students. They are a lost cause; for whatever reason, they just don't want to be there. There are more students at Clemson that there ever has been, yet the sections still cannot come close to being filled.

It is truly sad that they don't understand what a unique experience it is attending home sporting events as a student and that they will never, ever have that special time in their lives back.

Sep 5, 2015, 11:41 PM [ in reply to early in the 1st quarter heard a guy down from me say ]

It has nothing to do with all the students. The ones who want to be there are there. AA block is the fraternity block. If y'all have a problem do something about it. As a student it pisses me off too. But I was in my seat at 11:50 today. To say "it's time to give up on students" means you're just ignorant.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: early in the 1st quarter heard a guy down from me say

Sep 6, 2015, 1:15 AM

No, I think it really is time to just give up on the students. Think about how much better Clemson would be if we got rid of all the students. I think if we ever are going to become a football powerhouse, we need to just focus on football and get rid of all those pesky kids and their expensive classroom buildings.

have cognitive issues, and would interpret my statement this way. I apologize for not being clear enough for the slow-witted.

To clarify: It's time to give up on students ATTENDING SPORTING EVENTS, not give up on the student in general. I did not initiate this thought; it has been a talk radio discussion item for several years now. It gets reinforced every season with open-air rows upon rows of aluminum bleachers.

I will endeavor to remember the TigerNet reading audience better from now on.

Re: shame on me, I forget that some people who read this site

Sep 6, 2015, 11:21 AM

Let's talk again after the ND game. I've sat in almost every section of the stadium over the years. The student section, by far, gives us the greatest advantage in terms of energy and crowd noise. Yes, they left early at the Wofford game. They probably will for App State and Wake as well. However come ND, GT, and FSU, they will help create the Death Valley atmosphere.

Re: early in the 1st quarter heard a guy down from me say

Sep 6, 2015, 1:30 AM [ in reply to Re: early in the 1st quarter heard a guy down from me say ]

Just to clarify AA is not just the frat block. At least anymore. The new ticketing system just assigns a block section (eg section 6A meaning some random rows in a random section). So it's not that.

And yeah I stayed the entire time but there was a higher percentage of students staying than adults from what I saw.

Re: Way to go Clemson students

Sep 5, 2015, 9:01 PM

Wish everyone would stay the whole game, blowout or not. If I was lucky enough to get to go, I would enjoy staying until it's over. Hate thinking about how the team feels when they see half the people left. Even in a blowout, the 2nd & 3rd stringers deserve people watching them too, plus it looks bad on TV too

No I don't care at all about Wofford. The game was over 9 minutes into it.

I wish we never had to waste another Saturday playing a 1-AA team. It does nothing for me to play a team that far beneath us.

Re: Way to go Clemson students

Sep 5, 2015, 9:09 PM

Are you people kidding me? I haven't posted in years, but get a life. I left at halftime and I'm proud of it. We played a JV team. Part of my love for Clemson is the lifelong friends I made during my time there. Life gets busy and it's hard to stay in touch with all those guys. But for 7 Saturdays we are all in the same place. I'm not watching our 3rd string vs woffords 3rd string when I could be catching up with good friends. On the flip side I don't expect college students to waste some of the best years of their life doing the same. It's a scheduling issue not a student issue. Use your head.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Agree. Time with family, friends, etc is another

Sep 5, 2015, 9:16 PM

part of the whole gameday experience. We shut it down after going up 35-7. Who really cares?

It wasn't just the students. The entire stadium was empty in the 4th quarter.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Agreed.

All of you "I walked to the stadium both ways in the snow backwards and never missed a minute because I appreciate the value of a dollar and the whole Clemson experience" people can get over it. I didn't leave the stadium early and rarely do, but totally understand those that did.

It was Wofford.
We destroyed them.
We were playing vanilla football.
Some folks would rather hang out and tailgate for a few. It doesn't make them less of a fan.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It was the Wofford game. No one cares.

Sep 5, 2015, 9:39 PM

Plenty of the old folks left as well. DV turned into the spring game after half time.

Re: Way to go Clemson students

Sep 5, 2015, 9:56 PM

College football is big business. With the exorbitant prices of concessions and tickets, more fans now make their decision on entertainment value. Scheduling Wofford or like teams, provides little entertainment value. You can make a decision a halftime or the second half to watch a not so entertaining "game", spend another $30 bucks at the concession stand, or go back to the tailgate and enjoy friends and food and drink. It's a pretty easy decision for most fans. The only thing puzzling to me is why so many people can't understand this.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

so playing devil's advocate here....

Sep 5, 2015, 10:58 PM

you spend hundreds, even thousands of dollars on tickets, dues, parking spaces, etc., to eat and drink with friends that you could just as easily (and much more cheaply) meet up with at the Esso Club, or even in an air conditioned Applebee's in Greenville?

Personally, I give lots of money to IPTAY in exchange for experiencing 21 short hours (3 x 7 games) of live football a year in Death Valley, not eating cold KFC chicken and Bi-Lo cupcakes while listening to bad music with friends or relatives I'll see at Thanksgiving or at the beach next summer. Clemson football is far too rare and precious of an occasion for me to miss anything. I wait anxiously for 9 long months to forego being inside that stadium every moment I can be.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I agree with you. That's why I love going

Sep 5, 2015, 11:21 PM

Half the stadium left at half time, but keep blaming the students.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

One question - were you there?

Sep 5, 2015, 11:54 PM

We normally tailgate with our kids (a senior and soph) and their friends before the game. (Trust me, the only time we will see them between now and Thanksgiving is tailgating.) Traffic was terrible, and it took 1-1/2 hours from I85 to our tailgating spot. (I am a season ticket holder for over a decade and it was the worst traffic i have seen in over 10 years.) Getting there so late, we had very little time for tailgating time before the game. We therefore met at half time at the tailgate spot. We had lots of food left to eat and lots of socializing to do. You can count us responsible for 20 or so of those students after half time at our tailgate spot. It was very hot and an extremely slow 1/2 half due injuries mostly.

Don't get me wrong, the games are great, but so it he the family time and meeting our kid's friends. This is part of what makes Clemson a special place.

Every case is different, but I see no need to be so judgmental.

Sep 6, 2015, 2:42 AM

Most sickeningly thing you've seen at Clemson? Seriously?? I came from Florida and I left at halftime. I planned on coming back but I ended up having a great time at a tailgate. And it was a blowout. And at least I was there. And the students were there for the whole first half. If you want to ##### about the fans, show up and sit in the stands yourself. I spent a lot of money to make this trip. And I enjoyed it. Maybe decide how you want to support the team and stop criticizing everyone else.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Way to go Clemson students

Sep 6, 2015, 11:16 AM

I've been sitting in the stands for longer than you have been alive and make the drive EVERY Saturday to Clemson. I leave early and have little trouble. I was in NO traffic yesterday and drove straight to my parking spot non stop because I prepare. If you prefer tailgating to Clemson football, that is ok with me. Most real fans await the season to watch the Tigers play. What fraternity were you in?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So your point is you are old

Sep 6, 2015, 11:53 AM [ in reply to Re: Way to go Clemson students ]

Come on. It was Wofford. The stadium would have been packed the whole time if we played UGA, or any real team, at high noon. It was evident that Wofford is a mediocre at best 1-AA team. This was essentially a Spring Game you had to pay $30/ticket to watch.

Before you blast the Clemson students check w the ticket office.

Sep 6, 2015, 11:30 AM

Many students and guest of students where moved to the upper deck. This is what some of the students told me. The ticket office either made an error or the student seating has been changed.

I think it would be a good idea before we blast someone on TNet we be required to have to think first. It is so easy to slam someone behind an anonymous screen name.

I would like to see TNet require more info about members under there screen name as long as they can guarantee security of the site and info.
