I wish our fans would quit whining about the targeting call

Jan 4, 2021, 7:31 AM

All the whining makes us sound like Buckeye crybabies.

If we want to argue that the foul should not warrant an automatic ejection, that is something the NCAA should look at.

Some people think the targeting has to be a hit to the head. The easy way to understand the rule is: don’t forcibly hit the other guy in the head and don’t use your helmet to Hit the other player.

Using the top of your helmet to hit a guy has been against the rules for the 45 years plus I have been following football. Instant replay has made it called more often because it is really hard to tell what happened often in real time. The call was not made Friday night in real time and there probably would not have been a replay if Fields had not been injured which stopped play.

The rule was correctly applied.

I also want our fans to quit WHINING about all the missed HOLDING calls. It's only HOLDING if it's called. And it seems to the theme of every game we lose.
But I understand your point.

You know the biggest problem with loose holding calls?

We don't do it.

Regardless of whether or not the refs made bad calls or non-calls, we lost in the trenches.

Based on the black letter language of the rule...

it was targeting.

Whether the automatic ejection portion of the rule should be changed is something the NCAA should consider.

However, Skalsky himself said he has to learn to keep his head up in situations like that.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

It was a terrible call.***

It's not whining. The Tigers were clearly the better team. The only reason the Luckeyes won was because they paid off the refs.
