Thoughts on punting game?

Any punters in the portal? I feel like every team we played had a punter that could boot it 50-60 yards while we are getting 30-40 yd punts. Truly hoping this gets better next season.

After dabo called him out, and basically said we would have open tryouts lol. But I agree, having a punter who can flip the field would be huge. That’s a big reason why bama beat us in 2017. And why the coots beat us this year.
However, punters aren’t signing big nil deals, so most likely any punter in the portal is there because of playing time, so there is a reason they aren’t playing….

for the last six years. I'm not sure what the answer is but I think everyone is tired of literally every opponent we face having a significantly better punter.

elite status we've had the past few years. 3 and out offense combined with the bending defense makes punting crucial.

I agree. Punting has cost us quite a few big games. It did get better but just very inconsistent. We need a stud because that one position kills us time and time again.

Clemson Special Teams beyond kickoffs and field goals are barely existent. As posted before, Clemson has had such a talent advantage over the rest of ACC schools and players, Clemson has purposefully focused on Offense & Defense and declined to focus on special teams considering them a distraction.

Since 2018, Clemson has signed two kickers and two punters including Potter (2018), Swanson (2019), Jackson Smith (2022) and Robert Gunn (2022).
