Look, if DJ's entering the portal I wish him well, but the façade of being a great teammate seems a little conditional to being the starter. The first game he loses his job it appears he's choosing to leave rather than fight to keep it.

took over. I think perhaps Dabo withheld Cade from the games to keep DJ on the team. Now we're in dangerous water with only one backup. I think that may limit our play calling and make UT go after our starter that much harder.
I ain't gonna lie. I believe 90% of our problem was QB related and I wanted him gone but I still wish he had stayed for one more game.

Heck, he looked better than our starter. If DJ was “holding us hostage” as someone referenced earlier, Dabo should have started Cade weeks ago.

I wish he would have left many weeks ago. By now we would have beaten rival SCAR, which is very important for lots of reasons, including recruiting. We had backups of Hunter and Hunter and Wiles - We 2 Deep at QB. But with DJ as the starter, we were weak at QB. I want Dabo or Streeter to apologize the Cade, to the team and to the fans, and to every one he meets on the road. iptay members, recruits, store clerks, his preacher, .....

We need a great QB to gain back the respect we`ve lost in the last two years...great QB respect, no QB no respect...it takes little to disrespect CCC and ESPN can always find something to cut us over...Dabo needs to keep gas in the bus and keep Cades foot on the petal...would love to shut up the booger and the best way is to keep winning!

I’m sure he knew all year his job was gone soon as Dabo had to give Cade a shot.. don’t blame the kid for wanting to try a change of scenery and staff to get thing going. Why are fans complaining would you rather him get the nod over Cade after Dabo says he showed out the next three week of practice? Heck I’m glad Hunter is now number two just incase something happens I’d rather HJ go in instead of DJ

The window for the portal opens tomorrow so, of course, DJ is going to move forward. Do you really think he and Dabo haven't been talking about this for quite some time? This is no surprise and no betrayal. Dabo said back in the fall that DJ was graduating in December and he and DJ had a plan. He did not offer any further explanation but I think we now understand what he meant.
No need to raise an issue that isn't there. I'm sure this is all being handled internally the right way and was well thought out and communicated early on.

REading TNET - clearly many in the fanbase "want him to transfer or to at least not be the starting QB"!
He will earn his degree this month.
He has given Clemson 3 years.
His time here is basically over in terms of being the Tigers starter.
Why not move on?
A statement like this is like someone who is in a bad relationship; but stays in it: "to keep up appearances"! It doesn't make any sense!
It's what is best for him and for Clemson ultimately! I.E. it's mutually beneficial and I wish him nothing but the best of luck in life!

I’m not sure that’s fair to say. Dude battled for 2 years against all kinds of adversity and never made it about himself. Was helping Cade in the game last night. I am fine if he goes, but he represented Clemson well.

Not at all. Should have been gone moths ago. It just all of this praise of him being such a great teammate and leader is bull feathers. Dabo had him on a cross most of the year and in the end he's no better than any other hired gun.

Getting benched is not the reason he’s entering the portal.
He made the decision to not play at Clemson in 2023 weeks ago.
He needs a change of scenery.
He needs a fresh start.
He might need a new position, punter.

This is why I dislike the TP. It teaches kids to give up much quicker. Since I have watching college football I’m the 70’s there was always that chance a new recruit could come in and take your job. Now rather than fight for you starting position you can take the easy way out and hit the TP. Not every player that enters the TP gets picked up by another school.
In DJ’s case after everything that has been said about him and his spiteful treatment by the fans. It’s possible we may never get a recruit from DJ’s HS. Our coaches may not even be welcome on campus.

I'm not exactly crazy about the portal, but it's a reality now and you can't blame anybody for bettering their situation. DJ doing that does not make hiim a bad team mate. He's moving on - that's probably good for him, and it officially turns the page and clarifies our QB situation going forward. Move on and be happy.

I do not fault him for one second for looking for another opportunity. He is going to graduate from Clemson and has earned the right to do what's best for him.
