I'm not saying the decision wasn't the right one; maybe it was. BUT firing a HOF coach is a tough potentially blow up in your face type of decision that I hope Clemson doesn't come to regret. Sure, it didnt hurt FSU, but I would like to think we are not FSU. I prefer the family atmosphere to the win at all cost atmosphere at places like FSU. A move like this, in my opinion, tarnishes that family a little.
Jack was a HOF coach, and from the comments of his former players, a good man and mentor. You don't win for as long and as consistently as Leggett did on the back of BW's prior accomplishments. JL did a lot for this program and school. To me, this is a sad day; not a happy one. Heres to hoping we hire the right kind of man to lead the Clemson program in the same classy and clean way JL and BW did.

didn't JL have a lot of hurdles to overcome that were not really his making? Such as the scholarship issues in South Carolina that limited his ability to do things with scholarships that other programs could exploit in other states and private schools? I dont know how valid that argument is/was (that school in Columbia did well for a while but seems to be struggling now, but hiring a new coach wont fix issues out of his control.
I agree though; whats done is done and it can't be changed now. I just hope it didn't damage the family we all love at Clemson. A firing like this can have a lot of negative impact on former players, and can create hard feelings that are tough to fix.

All of sports today are based so much upon just "what have you done for me lately." Jack, you were a great Clemson coach for so many years and you should always feel good about that! But the fact remains that the Clemson baseball program has been on a downward slide for the past 5 years now. You were given every opportunity that could possibly be given you, in all due respects, to turn the tide and you could not bring us back. Now it's time for Clemson to move on with a newer, younger, and more vibrant coaching staff who will in every necessary detail lead the Tigers back to the top of the ACC and national spotlight once again each year!!!!

the last several years, it was because the current staff either didn't teach them well or
was playing the wrong people in position.....should it be any different for the next staff???

It was long overdue. I wish Jack good fortune. This does not tarnish the family atmosphere at all. Keeping Jack meant accepting mediocrity and accepting less - that is not Clemson.

I can certainly see that you are a very empathetic person and I credit you for that admirable quality.
The last 6-8 years of Clemson Baseball have been a failure measured by any barometer. Of course we all thank Jack for his good years of service and accomplishments at Clemson but the time for him to leave is NOW. The past 2 years have been a disgraceful presentation of a once proud program by a man who clearly has issues with authority. Repeated failures to make basic plays, horrible base running, his tendency to stick with players far too long when coupled with the statistics of the last 6-8 clearly said that he needed to go NOW.
If you think that college sports today is not a business, my friend you are sorely mistaken. I do not favor a "dog eat dog" environment either but having run a number of businesses successfully in my career, there is a time when leadership needs to be changed.
Personally I wish Jack the best but candidly I believe his coaching has "lost a step or two" and Clemson University through Dan R. had no choice but to make this necessary change.

I consider this a sad day for college baseball. As much as I recognize and acknowledge the influences that lead to an expectation of constant success in major college athletics, I'll always believe that Coach Leggett deserved more opportunity to right his ship.
Congratulations, Coach. Your legacy is a great one, advanced not only by your teams' many accomplishments; but through the many young coaches you inspired and mentored along the way, as well. Your sport will miss your individual presence, but feel your imprint for many years to come.

college athletics is not important. Has JL lost his coaching chops? I don't know, who's to say? Its not like he's 80 years old and out of his mind. Maybe he made mistakes in hiring his assistants. Maybe he (or the recruiting coordinator) made some mistakes in recruiting, who knows. I know at the end of the day it all comes back to the head man and its his responsibility for the results. Maybe it was the right decision, but we do know the success he has had deserves some measure in the process. Look at his coaching tree; its pretty impressive. Thats no accident.
DRad hasn't done enough yet to allow me to trust his decisions in these matters. Maybe his defiance of DRad (if it existed) was because DRad is a complete moron. I think JL has earned more cred over the years at Clemson than DRad has. Maybe the decision was perfectly justified. All I know is that a man who loved and gave a lot to Clemson was fired today. I don't think that is something to rejoice about, or something that doesn't come without consequences.

The product on the field became stale and has not improved in recent years. Leggett was given a chance this season to make improvements. Those improvements either were unnoticeable or resulted in fewer wins.
I will not say Clemson baseball will be better without Leggett. I think it is time for someone else to take Clemson baseball forward back to a standard of winning and excellence.

The decision to relieve Leggett of his duties was not easy to make and execute. When the team is not winning games and recruiting players to develop and play, it becomes necessary to make changes.

Let's see - Maryland and Tennessee fired their best coaches of the last 25+ years and it worked out great. South Carolina fired Fogler because they were too good to go one and done in the NCAA tournament and that turned out great. What could go wrong?

With said coaches hand picked coach in waiting already on his staff. Do you think that is a comparable situation to burning 50+ years off baseball continuity to the ground?

He did everything right except win championships and have en elite level program.
He represented Clemson with class and integrity and I appreciate that from him. He just couldnt get over the hump.

-dantly clear that Radakovich simply had no other choice; that might seem like somewhat of an exaggeration but I guess baseball is still important to Clemson.
I'm still kinda surprised Clemson made the postseason & the funny thing is is that I believe the fact that HOF coach Jack Leggett was still the coach was what got Clemson in; Clemson will have to be better next season.

Well said and could not agree more! Something to say for the lives that Jack Leggett has touched over these 24 years! A lot of great business leaders, other coaches, and just genuine good people that Jack has touched and had an impact on! Hard for "win at all cost" fans to see in the win and loss columns, but having a coach and leader that is a man of his word and represents honesty, integrity, hard work, doing well in the classroom, treating others with respect, etc. etc. is exactly the type of coach parents dream that their son would one day play for!
