Dabos policy on taking other visits

Feb 1, 2013, 8:59 AM

This is not a flame and Dabo sure knows what the heck he is doing but I had a convo with a UNC grad buddy who DESPISES NC State and told him he had to chuckle that we snagged a few of their commits and he said he was and has always told me his second favorite school in the ACC is Clemson after UNC of course. But then he said "How can Dabo be hypocritical and have other committed reruits visit, etc.. and want to take some of those guys but then his recruits can't take other visits?" I think if you put your bias down, it is a fair question. Just curious to get some discussion to make Friday pass quicker.

I've read where Dabo also

Feb 1, 2013, 9:01 AM

tries his hardest to convice the recruit to not commit because things could change. But when a kid swears up and down he wants to be a Tiger, it is reasonable to think he could uphold an agreement. But 17 year old kids do get starstruck by all the treatment from big time schools.

Re: I've read where Dabo also

Makes sense. Coach doesn'y want to hear a kid say he's committed unless he means it. Dabo has undoubtedly made enough deals in his lifetime to know that a mans word is his bond. So if you don't mean it don't say it. Go take other visits and then examine your choices. THEN decide. Straight forward approach from a standup guy IMO.

recruiting you?" if they are committed--sometimes they say yes.

When there isa coaching change, I think they become fair game.

maybe they were committed to Coach Reed and not NCSU...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Dabo's view is that if you take other visits, then you arent

Feb 1, 2013, 9:01 AM

really committed. So if kids that are committed to other schools visit Clemson, then he doesn't see them as being committed to that school. Not hypocritical at all in my opinion.

Thank you. I'm glad someone gets it. In no wauy is it

hypocritical. If a kid is wanting to visit other schools
he is not committed. Doesn't matter who his original "committment" is with.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't think he's totally against our commitments taking

other visits -- it's when they aren't forthcoming about it that creates a problem.

Not the least bit hypocritical

Feb 1, 2013, 9:03 AM

Dabo's philosophy seems to be:
"Willing to take other visits? then you aren't committed to any school."

As such if they were previously committed to Clemson then he considers them no longer fully committed. And of they are willing to visit Clemson while "committed" to other schools then in his eyes they are not committed there either.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Dabo's fine with commits taking visits. Just like every

Feb 1, 2013, 9:13 AM

other coach in America, he doesn't see you as truly "committed" if you take other visits. You may be "committed" on Rivals or TigerNet or whatever but not in the coach's mind.

It's really no different policy than any coach. I don't understand why people think Dabo's thinking is different than any other coach.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't see other teams' recruits

decommitting to take visits, so I'd have to say his policy is different.

I have seen this several times

Feb 1, 2013, 9:15 AM

How is it hypocritical? He NEVER has said he won't approach any other commits. His policy is DO NOT commit here and continue to take visits. He doesn't set the policy for what other schools do.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah, it's not hypocrisy, but the policy is pretty childish.***

Feb 1, 2013, 9:16 AM

Because that's an incorrect and illogical way of using the word hypocritical.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

it's that whole "Actions speak louder than words" idea....

Feb 1, 2013, 9:40 AM

If you say "I'm committed" but you go around making visits, then clearly you aren't committed.

So...

A kid says he is committed to another school + is still taking other visits = not committed.

Kids who aren't committed can visit Clemson. :)

Re: Dabos policy on taking other visits

Feb 1, 2013, 10:27 AM

I believe an offer and a verbal "commitment" can be viewed the same as a marriage proposal and engagement. Once a couple are engaged to be married, it is a fair assumption that they are "committed" to each other and mutually agree that they will no longer date or "take visits" with other people. I think all Dado has said is if you are going to date other people then I am also. If the time for the wedding comes and I have found someone else, so be it. That is the risk you take by wanting to see other people, but I am not going to sit at home by myself while you look around.

As far as Dado being hypocritical, I don't think so. I think it is the same as a single guy asking out a girl who is engaged but not yet married.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Maybe my moral compass is a bit off...?

Feb 1, 2013, 10:36 AM

But a single guy should not be asking an engaged girl out if is he aware of her situation. Obviously it goes both ways; the engaged girl should never get herself into a predicament that allows her to get close with anyone else besides her future husband.

Maybe that was off topic, my bad. People these days are crazy though. And this is coming from a Yankee....

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

My moral compass spins like a top and even I know...

Feb 1, 2013, 11:25 AM

that engagement analogy won't work in this circumstance.

Now if a team was only allowed one player at any particular position and took a commitment then kept recruiting another for the position the analogy would work.

It's the singularity of a player being able to commit to only one school that justifies Dabo's insistance that they not go a hoaring around.

People make the marriage comparison

Feb 1, 2013, 11:35 AM [ in reply to Maybe my moral compass is a bit off...? ]

and I think it is a bit off. In your scenario the guys FRIENDS wouldn't approach her but lets say she is on a trip to Vegas the sharks out there don't give a sh!t if she is engaged or not. I think that recruiting is more of a "all's fair in love and war".

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

As a couple people said earlier...

Feb 1, 2013, 10:33 AM

I think people are mistaken about what Dabo's policy is on commits taking other visits. My understanding of his rule on this is that commits are allowed to take other visits... this is not grounds for revoking an offer. However, if a commit tells Dabo his recruitment is over and will not be taking other visits, then ends up going on a visit anyways, that would be grounds for revoking the offer. I could be wrong, but that's the way I understand it.

OK, I'm laying my bias aside and taking a look at Dabo.

Feb 1, 2013, 11:19 AM

I found this verse last night while reading The Good Book.

Hesikiah 13:6

He who recruiteth a player who committeth shall not forbid that recruit to #### around with the great harlot SEC teameths.

I guess there's more bad about Dabo than his broken nose.

Re: It is a marketing ploy...nothing more, nothing less...

Feb 1, 2013, 11:50 AM

and anyone who thinks that the coaching staff is going to pull the offer of a 5* recruit who commits then shows up at Alabama the next week are gullible.

Not going to happen...but it could come in handy in ridding the school of unwanted commitments and replacing them with later better rated kids or to keep already committed players from going elsewhere if they think alot of their "word".

a marketing ploy which will get less pub the longer the staff stays in place.

Re: It is a marketing ploy...nothing more, nothing less...

Feb 1, 2013, 12:22 PM

Suppose Dabo fills up all available slots with "commitments" before signing day and on signing day RN wants to sign with Clemson. Does Dabo stick with his "commitments" or bump someone who has been loyal for RN?
