of idiots, on TV even, pronouncing it that way, but they are only putting their ignorance on display for the whole world to hear. Sad thing is, a whole lot of idiots listening don't know any better, and they pronounce it that way as well.
The correct pronunciation is jag-war, where war rhymes with car or bar. The British may pronounce it jag-u-are.
Jag-Wire is incorrect, and unacceptable.

to the OP: Thank you for bringing this up.
As to Smiling Tiger: I dont think I can do any better than you did, but I will add that I am really tired of hearing people (who should know better) so mispronounce some words. Granted, some of them are a little difficult for different reasons, but it seems many dont really care. Jaguar. I dont care who you are, that word is just not going to smoothly roll of the tongue. One can wonder why these animals were given a name so challenging to pronounce. But goodness people, there is no "i" in the word, please stop forcing one in there. There are others, but the OP didn't leave room for the others so I'll step down off my box now.

BTW: I grew up in the rural South and raised by parents who were from the rural South. Being a Southerner has nothing to do with the matter. I dont know why I say I was raised to make a distinction between the second "a" in banana and pajama, but at least I dont stick an "i" in there.
