Is Justin Ross draftable right now ......

Oct 25, 2021, 5:58 PM

based on what the did in his first two years or has his stock plummeted?

Remember Mike Williams came back because he wanted to show that he still had all of the things that made him a great receiver. Honestly, I hate it for Justin because I think he is a great young man, but at this point I am not sure what the pro scouts think of him. I think he needs to look at coming back next year, as if becomes what he was in the past, he will be a first rounder, but I think he is going to have to prove it.

I can agree with late 2nd to 4th round. I'm glad that his fusion issue was found and fixed before he potentially had a career ending or worse injury. It was just the worst timing for him. Without the neck issue and surgery, he would have finished his career at Clemson last year and probably been a 1st round pick with TL and ETN.

Spot on. He may want to take the money this year. Tough question. Don't know his situation. Be nice if he got a really good NIL... May make it easier to stay another year. And get a real big ins policy.

I would think some depends on the next 5/6 games. Will he have shown enough. Probably. But I honestly think he'd get a higher grade staying next year. If he were to develop and thrive in the slot, he could jump late first.,. Imo

My personal opine, he's gone. He'll get enough $$ and can prove himself. Everyone knows he's got it in him.

The Ross scenario prompts some thought: NIL.

Maybe some who have given generously to support and build the facilities could divert some of their monies to helping keep a couple of key players for another year. I personally would buy in on Ross. The team will, will, have a better QB next year.

If he gets a 3rd round grade, I would expect Ross to be off to the NFL. Too much health risk coming back and the QB situation will be unsettled at best going into next year. I wouldn’t blame him for not wanting to go through another season of watching out pattern balls sail into the Gatorade coolers either… Would be awesome if he did come back, but unlikely.

What has he shown to this point this year that even resembles an NFL receiver? I don’t even recall much his sophomore year. Other than a few highlight catches his freshman year, not much stands out. He is a later rounds or even free agent receiver at best unless he really comes on strong to finish the year! I’d take Powell over him in a heartbeat if given the option right now.

Is Powell on an NFL roster?

At one point, a first rounder. Now, unless he greatly improves or gets his head into the game - a 4th rounder at best. He should stay another year, hopefully the offense will get into sync and have a QB that can get him the ball. Even given the latter, he’ll need to show and do what he did his first year. A lot of ifs but.. another year, a better QB and offense and he steps up, he’d be back as a 1 or 2. Unfortunately, at least this year, no one looks good with the play calling and the QB’s play.

If JustYn Ross is playing another year to improve his draft stock, unfortunately his best move is to transfer. Especially if big changes aren’t made. You can’t hope that a freshman QB is going to be the magic bullet for the offense.

Cade is not going to play next year, dude needs a weight room and at least a year in our system and on the team before he will be ready to play. I work out of Texas and west lake is the best school
In the state with D1 talent at every position, he’s more a product of the talent around him than a can’t miss prospect… Cade is a project much like Hunter Johnson, by no means ready to go.

Oct 25, 2021, 7:20 PM

If you look at the landscape of college football, there are a lot of very good, and a few great, receivers. At this point, I don't think Justin is one of them ..... or at least he hasn't shown it on the field ..... even admittedly with a QB that hasn't been able to get him the ball. I would think if he thinks he is anything better than a 5th to 7th round selection, he should come back next year to prove it. I just don't see him taking 5th round money when in his mind he thinks he is a first rounder ..... which I think he can be ..... but not now!

Re: Is Justin Ross draftable right now ......

He got on the radar with the great plays against Bama. Since then I'm not sure how good he is. I haven't seen him blow past D backs or win too many 50-50 balls. Maybe it's the team around him, hard to say. I wish him luck and hope he finishes this year strong.

Re: Is Justin Ross draftable right now ......

Oct 25, 2021, 7:50 PM

So far this year it seems like he’s playing not to get hurt. That’s understandable considering what he’s been through. We weren’t in the room when his doctor had an honest discussion about his risks of further injury to the neck. We know there was lots of paperwork to process before he was cleared to play, so maybe he’s already under a sizable insurance policy. Can’t even imagine what that must be costing the University. I don’t think he’s in the right mental space to move onto the pros. He really hasn’t shown much since his freshman year when he benefited from Higgins taking the primary DB. He should come back but I’m not certain he’s really got the motivation to improve. We have seen the best of Ross during his freshman year.

There is no QB situation next year that would make him better, Cade is not ready… maybe DJ improves?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Is Justin Ross draftable right now ......

Oct 25, 2021, 9:04 PM

Yep. He’s just doing the Clowney. He was wide open several times against GA and throwing his hands up in the air in disgust when DJ was sailing it 20 yards over his head. Then they come out and blame him for the pick 6.

He decided at that moment he was done. Stay healthy, do enough to get playing time and show out at the combine. Late first round $$$.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Is Justin Ross draftable right now ......

Oct 26, 2021, 12:49 AM

If he doesn't perform better the rest of the year he isn't going to the combines ...... and if he does he is not going in the 1st round based on the combines. It might improve his stock, but not to the first round. You may remember where Higgins went (2nd Round) and at this point Higgins was light years ahead of Ross. He has absolutely nothing to lose by coming back another year ...... and everything to gain.

If he transferred to a Bama as their OL and QB will be good,

Oct 26, 2021, 3:11 AM

Ross will be a 1-2 rd draft. Right now, with the injury, a lackluster year, i doubt he is a 5th rd draftee, unfortunately. And I am not sure staying at Clemson next year under DJU, TE and potentially underwhelming offense, he is likely better to transfer to a top school. If? And I say IF, he is good enough to beat their current players for 1st string.

That said, maybe Oklahoma would be his best decision. While most won't want to hear this but I don't see DJU great, potentially TP takes over, or maybe Klubnik gets the start. None of those are resume builders for a potential 1st rounder especially since the OL needs huge improvement.

Unfortunately, I see 2022 being very similar to 2021 but moreso because we may be breaking in new coaches, new QBs, and still finding our way. I think our hole is deep and we have 2yrs to get offense fixed and that is a minimum. Our Def is going to be great, but in 2 yrs they very likely could be very young again and we will swap our strength once again. We will have hard time getting both aligned as great in the near future. Our offense is severely hampered by walk-ons and youth right now.

Ross hasn't looked like an NFL WR since his FR year

Oct 26, 2021, 6:59 AM

Given his serious medical condition i do not think he would be drafted this year. If he was i think it would be a 6th or 7th round flyer.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Is Justin Ross draftable right now ......

Oct 26, 2021, 8:38 AM

He needs to show toughness. There are catchable balls that he is not attacking like he did before the injury. I think that is what will give the NFL pause...all the talent is there. But he looks scared.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Is Justin Ross draftable right now ......

Oct 26, 2021, 9:14 AM

I think he's gone from a top 5 pick to probably undrafted if he came out this year. Teams don't waste draft picks on players with his medical history and lack of productivity since returning. Doesn't mean he can't be an NFL player, as he clearly has the talent, but he will have to prove himself over and over to ever get that chance and I'm not sure he enjoys football enough to ever get to that point. Somebody can always take a 7th round flyer on him but odds are he ends up on a practice squad somewhere and thats the last we hear from him. He just doesn't seem to have it any more.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Is Justin Ross draftable right now ......

Oct 26, 2021, 12:50 PM

I don’t know when or where he will be drafted. But if he plays in the NFL like he did versus Georgia and Pittsburgh, he won’t even make a roster. Dude has to learn how to use his body. Sometimes you gotta box people out and take the ball. Unfortunately, he has frequently looked very uninterested this year. Time will tell, but he has some serious work to do.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No, but Justyn Ross is

Oct 26, 2021, 1:23 PM

Make no mistake, Justyn Ross will be drafted by the NFL.

The question is how high & what does he need to do to be drafted higher, & consequently if that's worth returning to Clemson for another season.

Re: Is Justin Ross draftable right now ......

Oct 26, 2021, 9:24 PM

The pick six vs GA was his fault.

Very weak effort by Ross most of the time since then. I don’t care where he’s drafted, if I were Clemson coaches I would bench him and play someone that is interested in playing hard and getting better.

If he’s not interested, that’s fine, he could opt out and go train w some dude in SoCal.

He seems like a great guy, but ###, once u step on that field it should be 100% focus and 100% effort.

Next man up!
