Is it to early yet to call Clowney a NFL bust?

Dec 19, 2016, 9:53 PM

Not if any coots are within earshot! Would the Texans waste the #1 pick on him again? 0.0001% chance of that! He is a very serviceable NFL DE. #1 draft type DE? that would a big fat NO!

Not #1 worthy, but he is actually having a good year. I think he is 2nd or 3rd in TFL. Far from a bust, but also far from expectations.

he is a bust, he can get a sack and was drafted to get sacks...

Dec 19, 2016, 10:40 PM

still gets injured all the time and is still lazy. Making a good play once in a blue moon doesn't remove him from bust status. Overall number 1 pick who can't get sacks from the rush LB position in a 3-4 defense. Texans should have drafted Khalil Mack, who has been a major factor in getting the Raiders to the playoffs

I'd say it's way too early to say that. In fact, I'd say there's a good chance he turns into an All-Pro player within the next few years. He had a very difficult start with all the injuries, but he's really started to come along this year. If he stays healthy, Clowney will likely be a top-level player for years to come.

Vic Beasley leads the NFL in sacks

can't make this stuff up...

The taters want to, still label him a bust, by comparing Beasley's stats to Clowney's. Although Vic has more sacks, he has not been more productive than Jadeveon. Atlanta only use "Victor" in pass rush situations, and gets him lined up, where he can have a free shot at the QB. That want work once teams figure out what the Falcons are doing. The teams that play Houston are running away from Clowney's side, and he is getting double-tripled teamed all game long.

He is nowhere near a bust if you compare to people like Jamarcus Russell, Matt Leinart

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He's had a good season

Dec 20, 2016, 12:22 AM

just not as good as Vic's season. I think he's just now catching his stride, he'll be fine but with "Once in a generation" being thrown around when he was about to be drafted... he hasn't lived up to it yet and may never.

Trying to be objective.. if you call Clowney a bust, what would you say about Sammy?

Dec 20, 2016, 1:39 AM

Bills traded up in 1st to take him top 10 and he had 1 good season.
Personally I think its is foolish to suggest either are.

Injury riddled.

When Sammy is 100% healthy he plays at a very high level.

Agree. Or for that matter, spiller.

I don't think it's fair to call him a total bust just yet...

Dec 20, 2016, 10:14 AM

but I do think if the Texans could get a do-over, the pick someone else. He has certainly failed to live up to expectations and earn that hefty salary thus far. Of course, they knew he had no heart and a lousy work ethic when they drafted him.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.
