Is it the Coaches or are the Players Just not that good?

Oct 24, 2021, 3:15 PM

While most people seem to think TE's offenses have become predictable (I'm one of those) how much of our offensive issues are the simple fact that key offensive players just aren't that good and can't be coached any better?

After watching the dropped passes, poor QB play, bad blocking I think many of these players just aren't that good and have peaked. The Coaching staff are probably more guilty of recruiting these players that aren't living up to their hype.

Most teams have gotten better because of the free-year from COVID and are stocked with 5th year guys. We did not get any of this benefit, as the NFL and portal ate all our experienced guys on offense. The end result is 11 19-year-olds playing against 11 22-year-olds. Experience matters.

^^^Yep.

Some tweaking (some just slight) of long-held beliefs when it comes to recruiting has to happen (how many you offer, when you offer, sizes of position rooms--OL cough-cough, being worried about sending the wrong message to a kid that didn't "hit."

The Clemson offense was powered by elite talent and a generational QB. This covered a ton of our issues scheme wise. I believe Dabo and company got comfortable we quit pushing the envelope on the offense. No eye candy a limited route tree that has been routinely quoted by NFL coaches. We continue letting defenses dictate to us. Our oline is always shaky can't block .We have the better talent but our qb is shaky as the stock market. Dabo is not a great x and o coach no problem but to move forward we need better coaching. The offensive staff has failed this year.
