no, because it's September, Dabo's teams are rarely as good early in the year, we've had some injuries, we've had emotional situations happen with the team, and our coordinators are still getting their feet wet.

Look into it.
Or at least that’s what I was told by a certain Tnet poster midway (not at the beginning) through another crappy basketball season.

Bringing up basketball in a football thread discredits you and makes you look incapable of focusing on the discussion at hand.

Not flaming but Dabo has proven he can win at the highest level. Brownell has proven what in over 10 years?
Again no flame.

That has zero to do with Clemson football

or reasonable expectations for it.
If people want to talk about Clemson basketball, that's great! Start a post on the basketball board.
Inserting digs and criticisms of our basketball program into a football thread, simply as a way to try to somehow get back at me for posting a football opinion they don't like, is immature and illogical.

However, sometimes you do the very same thing that you are accusing them of. Again, nothing against you. I like reading your stuff.

You managed to throw shade on the players, staff and the tragic events with that "Signed TNet Homers".
What you said is probably all true. When you end it like that, you are saying that anyone that supports the football team is using all of these as an excuse.
Your trolling either out of spite for those that love the football team and are jealous that the Basketball team doesn't get it... or are just needing some attention.

Most people can agree that our performance thus far
Sep 19, 2022, 12:01 PM

in 2022 on the gridiron has been underwhelming.
There are reasons for that. If you want to use injuries, emotions, and new coaches as reasons to justify that, go right ahead. But based on what we saw last year, a better argument can be made that coaching is at the root of the problem.
I'm not trolling when I point these things out. These are honest opinions based on what I have seen and believe to be true.
No jealousy here, trust me. But it's really cute that some of you think that.

I totally agree with your assessment (too early to draw any firm conclusions), as well as your reasons for it being too early to judge. There are both positives and negatives for both the offense and the defense. My biggest concern is neither the offense or the defense has truly been tested thus far. And there are potential concerns for both the Offense and the Defense (from both our playing personnel and from our revamped coaching)
Actually, I'm somewhat surprised thus far: 1. Offense and DJ are performing better than I expected (although our opponents have been weak (or at best mediocre) specimens. 2. My biggest concern has been the performance of our highly-talented and highly experienced Defense (especially our Pass defense) against weak (or at best, mediocre) offenses. 3. Our best performances seem to be from our special teams, which I don't normally pay much attention to.

No not yet. I think our new DC is still trying to get comfortable with being on the field, along with the defense getting used to him calling the shots. Time will tell now that we’re heading into conference play now.

I thought we were supposed to be an elite program. Elite programs don't do that.

There are some concerning trends with our football program
Sep 19, 2022, 1:23 PM
|
|
over the last couple of years.
Since we won the national championship in 2018, we:
-went 1-1 against top 5 teams in 2019, including a blowout loss to LSU in the CFP championship. -went 1-2 against top 5 teams in 2020, including a blowout loss to Ohio State in the CFP semifinals. -went 0-1 against top 5 teams in 2021, failing to make the playoffs and failing to win our conference or even our division
That's a 2-4 record against top 5 teams. That's not nearly as good as it was the three years prior, when we were 6-1 against top 5 teams.
It is obviously early in this 2022 season, and we need to see how things play out. But thus far, we seem more like last year's disappointing team than we do the championship-caliber teams of years past.
Forgive me for not feeling optimistic about things when the "solution" in Dabo's mind was to promote two defensive assistants with no defensive coordinator experience to be co-DCs, and an offensive coach whose offensive coordinator experience was limited to a few years at Richmond and Liberty to be our OC, surrounded by position coaches on offense who have little to no experience coaching their respective positions.
Now, if we just want a program we can be proud of, that does things ethically, that graduates players, etc., and doesn't necessarily contend for championships, then we can be happy with what we have. But if we want to be an elite program - which I believe we should, given our success in the not-too-distant past, as well as the significant investments made by our administration and fans - then we are potentially in a precarious situation right now.
I honestly don't see how we can objectively look at what's happened within our program over the last few years and not have concerns. I don't expect everyone here to be able to do that, but I hope that some people can. It seems that more people are starting to realize that all might not be well in Tiger Town.

Again, posting about basketball in a football thread to try to distract from a topic that makes you uncomfortable is weak.

Still holding on to hope. Iowa State last year was a pretty darn good team. Our Defense held them to the lowest scoring all season. Hoping its the newer players that are still adjusting a bit. Will have a better idea within next 2 weeks.

3 games is sufficient enough to warrant questions about.....

both Offense and defense, but probably not enough to draw complete conclusions.
I'm not concerned yet about the defense. I just think there's too much talent to really "screw it up", but I think we'll know a LOT more after NCstate. I don't think Wake will pose much of a threat, for whatever reason we just match up well with them.
Offensively, I'd say there are many more concerns/red flags because IMO there's a TALENT issue (compared to the offenses that we grew so accustomed to 2015-2018/19). Talent issues can't really "be fixed" in season. However, just like the defense we'll know a ton more after NCstate to maybe know where we stand.
