Ironical: Coots top signee couldn't graduate high school...

Jul 11, 2014, 2:25 PM

but he chose the coots for their ACADEMICS:

"Dante Sawyer, the only member of South Carolina’s 2014 class from in the Rivals 100 rankings, will not play for the Gamecocks next season. The 4-star defensive end has gotten his GED and will enroll this week at East Mississippi junior college, according to TheBigSpur.com’s Wes Mitchell. "Ironically, Sawyer noted academics as his reason for choosing the Gamecocks. “I picked them because of the school,” he said immediately after pledging. “They have one of the top business schools, which is what I want to major in. It opened my eyes seeing everything they have to offer.”"

And then there's this:

"By [getting his GED in February], Sawyer will be able to enroll in classes early and have a shot at getting his Associates Degree from junior college by the summer of 2015, rather than having to stay there for two years like most players."

So he couldn't graduate high school, but somehow he is going to get a 2-year college degree in 3 semesters?

No matter how many corners they cut and rules they break to get him qualified, i'd still be shocked if he ever plays a down for the coots. Take a look at his twitter account and I think you'll agree: https://twitter.com/SavageTaee_

funny to hear about their "top" business school

Jul 11, 2014, 2:37 PM

They don't even have one of the top business schools in this state.

Now, credit- they do have a top GRADUATE international business school. pretty specific.

But their Undergraduate business school consistently ranks below Clemson and others

Haha sorry but that is not true. Please show me where

Clemson's undergrad business school has ranked about SCar's.

You really shouldn't just make stuff up.

Unfortunately, he's pretty accurate. According to this, South Carolina's undergraduate business school was ranked 105th by business week this year, with Clemson's being unranked. In 2013, South Carolina was 87th and Clemson 94th. Neither of us have much ground when it comes to bragging rights about our business schools.

Maybe I'm a few years off. I know we were ranked ahead

Oh well, we both suck at business

I don't have a problem bashing South Carolina, but let's not get personal with 17-18 year olds who are having academic trouble...it feels pretty low.

I was actually wondering about that...I can't remember...

If it is, I sincerely hope you got employment since our rank

Jul 11, 2014, 4:42 PM

is so low. Any CLEMSON degree is a great degree!

I've been fortunate to get some good jobs. However I wasn't trying to talk down about Clemson's academic standing...just trying to make sure we don't throw stones inside glass houses.

This isn't a kid having academic trouble

Jul 11, 2014, 4:34 PM [ in reply to Re: Ironical: Coots top signee couldn't graduate high school... ]

That implies that he is trying. Take a look at a few of his over 66,000 tweets. I would probably get banned for posting the content of some of them, but I think it's safe to say that they show a pattern of questionable decisions and recklessness. In my book 18 years old is plenty old enough for someone to be held responsible for their actions.

BTW, the focus of my OP wasn't him. It was the coot coaching staff. They knew this kids character, grades, etc. and not only decided to take him but now think they can get him a 2-year college degree in the next 11 months.

Still doesn't feel right to me, but to each his own.
