IPTAY parking space average width wrt tailgate canopies

I am a first year IPTAY season ticket holder. I retired 06/30/16 after 29 years with NASA, and plan on going to every Clemson home football game as long as my health will allow! A reserved/numbered parking space is included at my donation level. Since I am VERY susceptible to skin cancer, a tailgate canopy is a necessity for me if my parking space is not in the shade.

As I started researching tailgating canopies, I found that the most prevalent Clemson logo’ed selections that I found were all 9’x9’. After further thought, I concluded that the width of the average side-by-side paved parking space should be the largest canopy that I buy to insure no turf wars! What say y’all?

During my research, I got the feeling that EZ Up seemed to be the best made, best guarantee, and easiest to deploy/stow (sorry, my NASA terminologies!). If my internet research is right, the EZ Up’s are designed more so to leave the canopy attached to the frame when stowing.

E-Z Up’s top-class 8’x8’design is the E-Z Up Eclipse 8’x8’. It is $539, but it has a 7 year warrantee, has lots of adjustability & pre-drilled attach points, and is relatively light for its size. It has an optional lighter weight aircraft grade aluminum frame available. It is available with an orange canopy with white legs.

I noticed that Caravan makes an 8’x8’ also.

If I am barking up the right tree with my 8’ max assumption, here is an E-Z Up 8’x12’ Speed Shelter canopy. It is also one of their top-shelf versions with a 7 year warrantee. I think that it would be cool to cover part of the cargo bay portion of my Ford Ranger pick-up, including the deployed tailgate, with, say, 3’ to 4’ of the 12’, and let the other 8’ to 9’ extend beyond the tailgate lip.

No matter who you vote for, BUY AMERICAN...it's a vote for American jobs.

First, congrats on retiring and sure you'll have a great time with your tailgate spot! Most use the standard Clemson logo'd getup. I've had mine for years and never had an issue. The spots seem to shrink depending on lot every year...maybe they aren't, but seems like it. I'd go with the cheaper Clemson logo version and know you made a great choice...think I got mine at walmart for 100 something a few years back.

A few things to consider...warranty may not help you if someone hits it and bends a leg or something...or a coot steals it because they wish they were a Clemson fan...and then you're out a lot of money. Also, while good to claim spot, depending where you park if you max out the width (which I would do btw) you do end up moving it some over the course of the day as people come to park to allow for turning, cutting the tires, etc etc etc. Not a problem at all and all part of tailgating and helping people get in their spots, but something to think about if you're thinking of going oversized at all.
