Iowa offense and an Iowa question for everyone.

Sep 15, 2022, 12:23 PM

So Iowa has scored 14 pts in two games this season. They beat South Dakota St 7-3 in a game where they actually did NOT score a TD. Their 7 pts came via 2 safeties and a FG. This past weekend they lost to Iowa State 10-7 with their only TD coming after they blocked a punt and started at ISU's 16 yard line.

Iowa has 316 yards of offense TOTAL in two games.

Iowa's OC is Kirk Ferentz's son.

Now for the question. Can anyone here name any current or former Iowa WR? If so, how far back do you have to go? (The only one i can name played there in the late 90s!)

They had a really good white boy WR about 4-5 years ago... I want to say his name was Vandenberg or something to that effect.

Also they produce NFL caliber tight ends most years.

Yep, pretty much every year Iowa has solid O-Line / solid TEs / solid RBs / solid QB on offense. They also have fundamentally sound defenses most years.

That formula is enough to win, even in the absence of reliably OK WRs ... but all of their other 'typically solid' O-units must be, well, solid for them to have a good W-L record.

Hard to see that Iowa will ever make the CFP, but maybe with the coming expansion they'll sneak in once every two or three decades.

They are in the Big 10 much like the SEC schools in years they struggle; "will get a pass for being incompetent on offense"!

But, Nah, I don't know of any Iowa WR's in recent years. They had the King DB that was good.

Maybe the only school we could out gain right now and that would make Streeter look creative.

They have more punts than points so far this season (16 to 14).

Years ago the Falcons had a Tim Dwight. Kind of a Julian Edelmon type, short, white, could scamper. I 95% sure he was out of Iowa but I didn't want to cheat and use Google.

Tim Dwight.
Was a while ago and I had to look it up. Iowa is just dreadful. I dont think Iowa even really cares about winning. Its like Ferentz, who has been HC since 1999, has a lifetime contract. The fans/admin are fine just being average. In the last 15 years, Iowa has 4 seasons with 10 or more wins, and 9 seasons with 5 or more losses. That includes bowl games.
