Interesting perspective on Caleb Williams

Jan 5, 2022, 7:50 PM

Before I say anything else, I know that there is a very small chance that Caleb chooses us but hear me out.

We recruited Caleb Williams very hard back when he was back in high school. I think we should make a run at him. Other sites are making lists of possible teams that could go after him and Clemson is on many of those list.

I ultimately don’t think we will land him. I think either USC lands him or he ends up back in Norman.

Let me know what you guys think. Do you think Brandon Streeter will recruit him hard, or do you think he will put all of his faith in trust in Cade Klubnik?

Either one of those two quarterbacks would be an upgrade over the one we have now, but I’m not going to start war about what.

Don't need him. He is not going to ride the bench if Cade is our man.

No dude is holding a college hostage right now for money, and also he’s a sophomore so we mess us up with Cade who imo is the best thing to happen to us since trevor

I wouldn’t trade Klubnik for 2 Kaleb Williams’s. I’d rather stick with DJ. We don’t need that kind of “player”. I want guys who want to be here and love Clemson, not someone who goes to the highest bidder.

To add to my previous comment: Dabo Sweeney is everything that’s right about college football. Kaleb Williams is everything that’s wrong about CFB. Not a good combo at all

Something tells me we stay away from Caleb Williams

Jan 5, 2022, 7:57 PM

not b/c of him or his talents, but b/c of what he's doing with regards to the NIL/Highest bidder approach.

I just don't see Dabo wanting anything to do with that and 2) us even having the resources to throw out something that would match what UGA, Bama or now Texas A&M is doing.

This Williams kid may have burned his bridge at OU. OU's new OC has his prior QB coming to OU via the portal. Already on campus so I read.

I don't think Dabo and Streeter have given up on DJU. He gets another chance at Spring and fall practice competing against CK. We'll know where all that stands no later than week 4 of next season.

2024 white level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I suspect we'll know about DJU sooner than that.

Jan 5, 2022, 10:14 PM

First or second possession of the first game. If he looks as bad as he has this season, healing up and another off season to develop (spring and fall), we'll know it's over for him. We really can't afford another game or two with QB play like that, especially if we have another real QB on the team.

No way would Dabo ever do that nor would I support it. Why invite trouble especially when you would alienate the awesome talent we have coming? Caleb Williams is not to be trusted, not a team player, and thank goodness not a Clemson Tiger.

I agree with you TigerSurvivor®.

Our 2022 team is already going through lots of major changes (both coordinators gone, O-line coach moving to off-field role, D-Tackles coach gone); the last thing we need is to create an unstable situation at QB. Bad enough that C.Williams (if he decided to come here) may again leave in a twit. Worse still if his on-boarding causes DJU and/or C.Klubnik to exit via the portal.

Some portal heroes are just not worth it; Caleb Williams is one such "not worth it" kind of guy.

Doesn’t fit culture and bringing him in sends mix signals to Cade. I’m all in on Cade or a DJ reaching his potential to lead us this year. A grad transfer from a fcs with experience who doesn’t mind being a depth guy would be best route.

I don’t think we have a chance. He’s wanting money. I think winning will matter some so much guess I’ll be a bidding war between USC, UGA, & T A&M. I don’t include Auburn cause they aren’t going to win anything even with him at QB. The others I think he’d be an upgrade and could help them win there Conferences.

I hope we don't even sniff at him. He's shown everyone that he isn't a Clemson man - he thinks he is above the team. Plus, who cares if he goes to Southern Cal?

This is your first poast? Got me, troll.

Hope he rots in the portal! No one takes him! But you have the win at any cost coaches. UGA.

He's looking for a big pay day...

Jan 6, 2022, 8:19 AM

and the only way he can explore those options is by entering the portal. If OU comes -up with some cash, he'll likely return to Norman. Otherwise, he'll go to one of the other highest bidders.

This is simply a money grab. Nothing more...nothing less.

Here is a kid that has made no bones about the fact that HE

Jan 6, 2022, 8:24 AM

IS SELLING HIMSELF TO THE HIGHEST BIDDER!

And you really think that Dabo would go after that?

Aside from that, it will quickly become apparent that Clemson is not set up, nor CAPABLE of waging an All Out $$$$ war for recruits, even if we wanted to. Not unless a Bezos, Musk, or Gates decides to adopt us.

Now, I WILL say that, if you were to get those three individuals in a room with Dabo making a sales pitch, like in Shark Tank, I would bet that Dabo is enough of a Closer that one or more of them WOULD adopt us.

:)

Re: Interesting perspective on Caleb Williams

If at some point Dabo and Clemson wanted him to be a Tiger, then he must be of good character. Now, this portal thing makes it difficult because some are saying it’s his way of getting NIL money ?????

Saw something earlier that someone with Eastern Michigan is offering Caleb $1 million bucks to play football.

Sorry, but when this starts happening there is no longer any allegiance to a college from a coach OR player. No amateurism remains, the games becomes all about $$$$ to the best players. I mean, how can you blame these young men for going after the money. Put yourself in a 17/18/19 year olds shoes as a great athlete. It’s not easy and unless this NIL and transfer portal is amended, it will only get worse.

I’m not sure what “the fix” might be, but NCAA football will never be the same.

If Caleb comes to Clemson it would shock me. I give it basically 0 chance
