incident in richland county

Apr 15, 2021, 2:54 PM

connected to "the summit" earlier this week. a small group of protestors (10-15) entered the courthouse and began to chant and confront anyone they could in the lobby. soon they were met by around 20-30 rc deputies working security here. they hurled insults at the deputies and stuck their phones in the cops faces before leaving. lasted around 5-10 minutes they continued to the statehouse.

"I love this place, I've got a spot already picked out where I want 'em to put me when I die - up there on that ole hill near the stadium. I want to be there so I can hear all them people cheering my Tigers on Saturdays; then I won't have to go Heaven; I'll already be there."- Frank Howard

yeah deputies come in and out of here all day along with the ones who work security. they will be ready. I believe something is happening up at the state house now. last year we were run outta here every day for about a month around 12 because law enforcement wanted to shut the building down so they were sure we could get out.

stories through the years that will remain untold. I agree that RC won't be playing any games.

I used to live right next to "The Summit". Moved.

Anyway......The Summit was a neighborhood, or a neighborhood of neighborhoods, that sprung up just before the housing crisis. Some nice houses there. Schools were good in the area. Was a growing part of town. Many young people like us moved there to the area anyway. Bought first house there.

Then along came the housing crisis. We didn't live in the Summit, but The Summit was the posterchild for the housing crisis (foreclosures). Wasn't as bad in our neighborhood. But the houses and turnover in The Summit drew down home values all around. The schools became riddled with gangs, academics fell sharply, schools were beyond overcrowded. We left mainly due to the rising crime, lowering home values, and faltering schools. Not to mention traffic. Wife totaled her 1yo GMC Yukon XL in The Summit. Drunk 15yo teenager ran a stop sign. That was kinda the last straw. 2yo son was in the car. That and the neighbor's house was broken into just before Christmas same year.

We got lucky and sold our house at break even in 2011, and that's only because we weren't in The Summit.
