In a twist of irony, USuC's beatdown of Tennessee

Nov 20, 2022, 1:56 PM

probably turned out to be the best thing for Clemson...

1. Removes Tennessee from the playoff picture

2. Makes it even easier to focus our players on the coots - I'm sure Dabo will be able to use this game to garner our team's full attention and serve as extra motivation in our preparation this week.

3. USuC had to pull out a seasons worth of new offensive schemes to lay Tennessee out. Nice to have all that on film as I doubt they have many new offensive twists left in the tank for this week.

4. Catching lightning in a bottle twice in seven days is very rare. Would not be surprised if USuC spends most of the week pounding their bird breasts, flapping their beaks, and basking in the glory of a one night miracle just to lay an egg this Saturday.

Fully agree on all points.

Even if they play their best game, we will pound on them. Our defense is another beast entirely than Tennessee’s. It’s going to be hard for Rattler to find receivers. Certainly they won’t be able to run on us.

Carolina used extremely deep drops to give the quarterback more time to look over the field and receivers to get open. We will need speed to get to Rattler and good coverage down field.

Y'all remember to thank a Gamecock today. I anticipate that being the simplest way to shut them up. :)

Yep. I remember a couple decades back when Clemson beat

Nov 21, 2022, 7:55 AM

a very good Miami team and followed it by losing to a bad Duke team the next week.

I remember it snowed one day many years ago. Makes as much sense as your remembrance.

I am sure that our Defense OC will review the TN-USC game in depth many times this week. Our D will be ready.

Solid by Tabbyplague. Agree on all this. I know our players take this game seriously. I think their players try to. I look at that Tennessee game as confidence crack, rat poison, let down candy, whatever you want to call it. Chances of them even closely repeating that kind of performance a week later, on the road, is remote.

In his entire career, how many times has Spencer Rattler played like that? Going back to his days at Oklahoma, I’m guessing a handful or less.

Now, how many times has he done that two games in a row?

I like our matchups in this game. I think our linebacker play is really good right now, in a way that I don’t believe they have the personnel to prepare for properly. Go Tigers!

Rattler himself said that's the best game he's ever played. Let's make sure he can't say that again this week.

as to No.4, we need to realize this could be applied to us as well. I was unable to watch our game ( or theirs) but it seems our D was simply amazing for the first half last weekend, but let up some in second half. Also, DJ. and the O were playing like Clemson of 3 years ago? Based on our inconsistency over the season we could be forgiven if we suspected we caught lightning in a bottle last week too.

I hope we beat the mud outta them, certainly don't want them to be the ones to end our home field win streak (which is becoming a pretty amazing stat) but we, team included, need not get too full of ourselves.

I’m all about humility and preparation going into every game. When you’re better than the other team, there’s no value in talking about it ahead of time- just go out and do it on the field. When I think back to some of the losses over the past decade (haven’t been many), it’s those when we didn’t prepare / respect the opponent that anger me the most.

Re: our game vs Miami, it was more the offense that let up in the second half, third quarter specifically. Turnovers. Defense still had some good play, stops, got a safety. I don’t think our play was lightning in a bottle, didn’t look like that at least. WRs still had some drops, fumbles, DJ wasn’t perfect. Wasn’t like we were all world but certainly a more complete game. I actually thought we played fairly focused for majority of the game vs Miami. Imo, if we play like that again, we win.

It also showed America that the SEC is not as strong as ESecPN and the SEC want the fans to believe. That's why none of them want Clemson in the CFP. No matter the flaws in Clemson, the SEC teams have just as many, if not more.

SCar hasn't been able to string together 2 quality wins in a row all season; I see no reason to think they will do so this week.

are correct.

This has been what I was thinking since Saturday. The unnerving part is that SC apparently DOES have it in them to not suck on a given night. That much is now undeniable. That said, you nicely articulate the counterbalancing truths of that.
