When he got on the microphone at the LSU basketball arena, he may not have been actually trying to have a southern accent.
Just like the coke lady at our National Championship celebration in Death Valley had problems speaking on the microphone, when you speak in a big arena or stadium, unless you have headphones, earplugs or a speaker right in front of you, the delay messes with your head big time.
I was a Clemson Cheerleader, I lead many pep rallies and spoke on the microphone in Death Valley and Littlejohn. What happens is you start talking and 2 seconds later you hear what you just said. If you don’t have earplugs in so you can’t hear what you just said, one of 2 things happen. In Death Valley you end up sounding like Charlie Browns teacher on peanuts. In Littlejohn you just sound more southern because the delay is shorter. You just draw out your words more.
