Avid football fan, especially at the NFL level, is there anyone you enjoyed more than Dandy Dan Meredith? . I know people who really weren’t football lovers who watched just to hear that clown. He could make the most uninteresting game a classic. I’ll always remember the clashes he had with Howard Cosell, who wasn’t everyone’s favorite. I bet there a lot of young fans who never got the joy of hearing this guy call a game.

Don is correct. One of my favorites was a comment regarding a player in the game whose name was Happy Hooker. Don said “I never met one” There are dozens more. I think it was a Cowboys game I was watching when the camera focused on a fan who was displaying his thoughts about the game by extended his “social finger” to the camera. Don quickly replied “we’re number one”. That was a classic and I bet many Tiger fans remember that. The Cowboys were my favorite in those days because of a big time DB named Charley Waters. Remember him?

Dandy and Cosell had some very humorous talks. I remember one when a skydiver landed on midfield and Dandy told Cosell they had a parachute for him too but was not sure if the parachute would work properly.

I remember that as well. You could write a book about that group of broadcasters. They were much more entertaining that some of the games.

loved to hate. My favorite Cosell moment didn't happen on Monday Night Football, though.
Howard was interviewing Muhammad Ali once, and said "Champ, you're being very truculent tonight." Ali, without missing a beat, said, "Well Howard, whatever truculent means, if it's GOOD, I'm THAT!"
