and lawsuits in his wake.
His current fortune is from being a game show host and licensing his name to put on other people's projects. Everything else he has tried to make or create (steak company, university) has been an abject failure and/or a proven fraud.

I'd deflect too if I was broke as a joke and had just taken the time to nitpick the way in which one became a billionaire.
Can I make a request for your next post? Can you bedazzle us with some opinions on how Tom Brady went about it all wrong when it came to how he ended up banging Gisele?

No proof other than what he has told you, or what his handlers have fed to business periodicals who make those lists over the years. Multi-millions? Likely. Billionaire? Who knows. Yeah, this part is nitpicky, but didn't want to let that slip by unattended.
Second. No nitpicking with the assessment - it's illustrating that he has risen to the ranks he has via media and image - ONLY. He has sold you and countless others on his business prowess and deal-making, yet it's been TV ratings, as a game show host, and OTHER actual developers, not Trump, that rescued his finances. Were he not POTUS I would not care a lick. But considering his track record with business more associated with the actual duties of POTUS, forgive me if I dare to take a look behind the curtain.

To you, a simple statement about a singular aspect of his life (and a pretty indisputable one to a rational person) becomes total approval, even enthusiasm, for the man.

I do dispute the size of his wealth due to the litany of BS and distortion of facts that he is incessantly letting out, so forgive me if there's little credence I give to his self-assessments, and man does he ever like to self-assess.
The source of this wealth, the underpinnings of this wealth, does not equate to leadership. His failures have been in areas more in line with the type of business that running a country entails. His successes have little do with the type of business that running a country entails. Capeesh?

The best point I heard made about him is the simple fact that billionaires make other people rich. They invest in others and it works in the favor of both. Trump doesn't do that, he only takes from those around him.
He's not a billionaire.

that he's started outside of the game show gig and licensing his name to other people's developments. His own real estate developments, some bankrupt some not, speak for themselves.
Listen, there's nothing wrong with amassing a fortune being a game show host and licensing your name to big real estate projects. Nothing wrong with that at all. What's wrong is spinning that as something compeltely different and conning people into letting you run their country for them based on it.

and it was to show the faulty logic in your argument.
Your argument was this: usually when people can regale you with stories of others' shortcomings and failures, it's primarily because of their own successes.
My point wasn't attached to Trump, it was attached to the idea that you can't talk about other's failures or shortcomings unless you're as successful as them. That's clearly not a non-sequitur, but if it makes you feel better to dismiss the point then, by all means, continue...

Nitpicking the means by which someone multiplied their financial wealth by 300,000% is not even close to the same as criticizing one of the worst financial crimes of the century. It's a weak point and you know it.

Which was the point. Maybe you didn't mean it to read as it did, but your argument was that simply because Trump was rich and had successful businesses that one had to equal that type of wealth and success to talk about his failures in business or criticize how he came by that wealth. Which is why it's perfectly logical to bring up extreme examples to prove how illogical that argument is.
It's like saying you can't talk about the Kardashians in any moral or business ethics sort of way simply because you aren't a millionaire yourself.

"regale" was a pretty loaded word, and taken in the context of every.other.post I've made in the thread on the topic, it was pretty clear I was saying it seemed hyper-critical to criticize the business success level of an individual who went from 1M to 3B.

Trump. It’s an outright lie, which should shock all of us, coming from a guy who so typically tells the honest truth. He got tens of millions from his father, and continued support in various fashions when his investments were flailing. One of his casino managers said Trump Sr would, on more than one occasion (and via proxy, obviously), walk into the Taj Mahal and get $3M in chips...and walk out the door.
Check out Dirty Money on Netflix. Great series anyway, but the one on Trump is pretty fascinating. 90% of it is stuff you already know, but having it presented chronologically with key people who worked for him explaining it is eye-opening.

Aug 7, 2018, 4:26 PM
[ in reply to Probably not by starting with tens of millions of dollars ] |

He had a 1 million dollar trust....nicer than what you or I got, but not exactly set for life. He also took out some loans from his father's estate at then-current interest rates.
So let's put that into perspective. Turning 1 million into 3-ish billion.....
Let's say you entered the working world post-studies and your folks gave you $10k to play with. That would equate to you having a net worth of 10 million to achieve the same wealth growth. Are you there yet? Getting close?
Point being, hate the guy all you want...he can make it hard not to, and there are plenty of faults to go after. All this trying to nitpick how the guy got wealthy though just looks pitiful, juvenile, and spiteful. It says more about the critic than it does Trump.

That was you who was talking about being impressed by somebody who'd made a lot of money.
He also started out with much more money than that- he had a $40 million inheritance. The $1 million was the loan he took to start out on his own in business, and he may have had more money at this point than he apparently has if he'd just invested it in an index fund based on the S&P 500 index.

YOU ARE CORRECT. OUR SYSTEM IS BROKEN, BIG TIME. HENCE THE REASON TRUMP WAS ELECTED. PEOPLE IN THE SWAMP, NO MATTER THE PARTY SHOULD BE AFRAID. REALLY HARD TO BELIEVE THAT PEOPLE CANT SEE WHAT HE HAS ACCOMPLISHED IN SUCH A SHORT TIME. AND BY THE WAY, TRUMP HAS NOT WRITTEN ONE NEW LAW. HE IS ENFORCING THE ONES THAT ARE ON THE BOOKS. SOMETHING PREVIOUS "LEADERS" SAID THEY WERE GOING TO DO BUT DID NOT. YES, EVEN YOUR ICON HUSSEIN TALKED BIG ABOUT ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION.
