Chase Hunter Expectations

Chase Hunter really came on at the end of the year, and started at SG the last 15 games of the year. In those last 15 games, he averaged 10 PPG and 2.86 Assists per game. He was our best distributor on the team in those last 15 games. He was also our best creator. He is one of the only players last year that could create his own offense at will. Hopefully he continues to improve his shot. I think he has the ability to score 14+ ppg this year. It would be great to be able to get a consistent 40-45ppg from Hunter, Hall, and Tyson.
He is so athletic, he can play SF as well. He is not as bulky as David Collins was, but he is just as tall and has a better vertical. I could see him starting at either PG, SG, or SF.

Agreed, he was finally injury free and regained his confidence last year. I am hoping for a big year out of him and being a go to player when we need a basket.

David Collins was about 220 lbs and a solid 6-4 if not 6-5
Never addressed that in the portal like they should have.
I like Chase but he has never been the guy at PG. Can he continue good solid play learning to play there?
also he is very injury prone. Been banged up in practice already so far this season.
Still bothers me only true guards on the team with experience are Chase and Galloway. One of those go down and it could be a very long season.

David Collins is listed at 6'4 everywhere, so you are just making up that he could be 6'5. Collins was bulkier, but hunter is way more athletic.
He has played mostly Sg, but he has shown the ability to handle the ball and create for others. He will be fine at PG, Sg, or SF.
I just hope he stays healthy.

His recruitment is kind of a mystery. At one point he was a top 50 player. He played at a prep school with some of the op players in the country and performed well. Something happened during his senior season, and his stats were only 2ppg or something. He recommitted from Baylor and committed to Clemson. He's still rated a top 100 recruiting ESPN, but is only a 3* on other services.

we are strictly a perimeter team with no ability to play inside out. Even when Hall returns he'll be rusty from the layoff.
Neither Hunter nor Galloway have been the primary PG, but that's what one or the other will be asked to do this year. NC is correct, we have no one resembling a SF on the roster. You can win with 3 guards, but you'd better have some physical guys in the paint like we did with Thomas and Simms. And none of the guards we have this year have proven they are as good as Reed, Devoe or Mitchell.
I love basketball, but I am highly skeptical of this roster. 5 of our 6 bench players are freshmen. We do not recruit impact freshmen under Brad. If one is this year it will be his first.
We're likely to get murdered on the boards even with Hall. Collins could mix it up inside, I can't see Alex Hemenway doing that.

You may love basketball, but you don't seem to know our roster very well.
Our bench (if my projected starting lineup is correct) is
Senior Hemenway
Soph middlebrooks
Soph scheflin
And then we have redshirt freshman josh Beadle
We also have rj Godfrey who is a SF. He is 6'7 and built like a tank. We also have chase hunter who is as tall as David Collins and he can play SF.
So yes, it would have been great to get a SF or PG in the portal, but I believe we have solid replacements.

You putting 2 freshmen in the starting lineup. Or is it 3 with Hemenway on the bench?
Godfrey may be built like a tank, but he's a 3 star recruit. I can guarantee you he's not Trevor Booker who would be the last 3 star recruit we had make a real impact as a freshman. He's the last freshman period we've had make a real impact.
If Hunter plays 3 and Hemenway is on the bench, who plays PG and SG? One is Galloway? What other freshman is starting in the backcourt? Beedle? He's the only true PG on the roster. And he didnt play last year when our PG play was mediocre at best, considering both guys we had were better off the ball.
Middlebrook starts at 5 until Hall returns. You're other 4 are likely Hunter. Galloway, Hemenway and Tyson. And please don't say Tyson at 3, he could never guard a small forward or 3rd guard.
That leaves 5 of the 6 guys on the bench as freshmen

They'd better be. If you don't expect us to improve on last year, why are we even talking basketball in July as we'll have a new coach in 23-24 and basically the entire roster will graduate or transfer out.
We have 12 scholarship players, and 7 of them are Fr or So who really have proven nothing. Of the 5 upperclassmen, apart from Hall, they've been role players. Galloway was the 4th, arguably 5th best guard on a bad BC team, yet he's the guy we're counting on to run the offense?
You can win with that kind of youth at Duke, or NC, but at Clemson? A roster like this has been the recipe for a really bad year, as we just don't recruit plug and play talent under Brownell

If this team was so going to be good as you indicate why did they go after such big names in the transfer portal even after this current roster was assembled?
Could it be they felt they needed another major piece to be good. Unfortunately, coming close to getting those big contributions was not in horseshoes. Maybe that is the game that Brad needs to start coaching...

Why do teams like unc and Duke recruit the portal even though their roster is filled with McDonald's AA? Maybe because despite have a roster of competent basketball players, you still could always get better. If they miss on a portal target does that mean they are going to be terrible that year? No. This is no different than Clemson trying to attract recruits in the portal.
Why do the id!it's on this board continue to try and argue with things I didn't say? You all make up crap that I say and then argue about it. Embarrassing.

I don't know if he deleted it or what, but that post is now showing under my username on my desktop computer. It is still showing that NCTigs posted it on my iphone.
Try it. It should show that NC Tigs posted that message on an iphone. I have included a screen shot and a screen video of me scrolling this thread. It's some weird glitch going on right now.

even start on any NCAA team we've ever had. He's not bad, but he's not the number 2-3 option on a good team. Neither is Hunter.
Hall is the only legitimate guy on the team who would start on a good team.
What defines an impact freshman for you? Name one Brad has recruited. Look at Booker his freshman year as he's the last one we've recruited. Double digit scoring, led team in rebounding, blocked shots, FG%. Who is doing that or something similar this year?

I was told that David Collins was more like 6'5. He is listed nowhere at 6'5.
I get told to leave PJ off my list of our players, even though he is projected to come back as early as November and most likely December. The ACC schedule doesn't even start until late December. I can't include him in any of my analysis or thoughts on the season?

I think we will have a better year than last year provided that Hall comes back in early Dec healthy. if we have a worse year than last year, then it would be appropriate to fire brownell at the end of the year.

he has a leg injury. He can't do basketball stuff or running. So, unless something happens that has never happened under Brownell, and you have 2 freshmen, not just one, become major contributors, there is no way we're better than last year. Youth has never, ever been Clemson's friend. We don't recruit difference making freshmen under Brownell
