If you don’t think Dabo would ever leave for Alabama...

This shows you what it may be like. I was just gonna watch a minute of it, because I wanted to see when she ripped her mask off and threw it.
Ended up watching the whole dang thing. Very compelling speaker. Grew up from humble beginnings in Louisiana, won national championships at Baylor, and now was called home to LSU. Just seemed eerily similar to what we could be in for. But hopefully not!

I don't think so.
Dabo is the architect of the Clemson program. He is the legend here. He surpassed Danny Ford a long time back.
At Bama, he would be nothing but the caretaker of Nick Saban's program. You never, ever wanna be the guy who follows the legend, it's the worst gig in sports...and every coach knows that.
There's just no amount of money they could throw at him, I would think. I would personally be stunned.

I'm in no way saying Dabo would leave, but I am 100% saying that Dabo wouldn't be intimidated at all to follow up Nick Saban. If he turned down the Bama job it would be because he wants to stay at Clemson, and not because he'd be afraid to be in the shadow of someone else, or afraid to fail.

that his kids are Clemson kids. Grew up with Clemson, played for Clemson.
And finally...it's not just replacing Saban...it's replacing a whole system. Saban wins very differently than Dabo. The culture of the program is very different. Dabo would almost certainly have to come in and tear the place apart to recreate a fraction of the success that he has at Clemson or Saban has at Bama...and why bother? I would be shocked if his blood isn't significantly more orange than it is crimson at this point.

I have no idea if Dabo would actually leave, and I like to think that he would choose not to. However, anyone who says he 100% would not do so isn't being completely realistic IMO. There's no doubt that Dabo loves Clemson, and becomes further rooted into Clemson with each passing day. I also think he clearly loves Alabama, and you have to think that was his dream job at one point at least. I think at the very least it would be a very difficult decision for Dabo.
I'll put it this way. We all love Clemson on here, and let's just imagine that one of us got into coaching and let's say our first big break was at some school other than Clemson, and that we went on to have similar success there as Dabo has at Clemson. I'm sure over that period of time you'd love the school that gave you your big break, and where you had spent so many years. However, if the day came that Clemson called and offered you to be their head coach would you just immediately say no?

I worked with some Alabama fans that honestly believe that Dabo will go to Alabama when Saban retires. They are Alabama fans so cannot comprehend anyone not feeling blessed to be selected by Alabama.
I think the ship has sailed for Dabo to go to Alabama. Not sure there is a coach that can do what Saban has been able to do with their fan base. I am betting the coach after Saban will be someone on the tail end of their career who takes it for the pay day it will be.

The good news is Dabo is all in at Clemson. And in my humble opinion, as long as he and Kathleen are happy with their lives, Dabo will stay at Clemson.
Just as most of us will always love Clemson, Dabo will always love his early years playing & coaching at Bama. Still it is Clemson where Coach Swinney has created something special for the university, his family and his legacy.
Dabo and Kathleen are doing great work at Clemson on and off the field. Clemson is their home, and they seem to be very happy. That is good news for Clemson and Clemson Football! Go Tigers!

Keep in mind that Alabama already fired Dabo already. We went all in with him when he was unproven. That is RARE in the football world for a program that has the capacity to win a national championship.
Next it isn't uncommon for an elite basketball coach to change schools, especially for a Alma Mater. See ol' Roy Williams. Basketball is a lot more fluid. Rebuilding is a bit easier. Plus, there is something about an elite coach returning to a floundering program. LSU, like Mike Daurghety's UNC was a foundering program not making the tourney after several final four years.
Finally, I am also curious about Baylor's ability to "support" athletic programs. They have had an athletic rise to power that is boggling and how long can they do it. We know they were in some shady dealings previously so what were they looking to clean up?

Like Dabo says, "you never say never". But he will not leave Clemson for Alabama. He rebuilt Clemson and has everything going for him. He will stay at Clemson until he retires. Then you wonder who will continue his legacy. Wonder if that is what Tony Elliot is waiting for?

Actually there is one instance to "say never": UofSC
I agree, I don't think he would leave Clemson for Bama. But I could see him retiring say in his 60s (so another 10-15 years with us), taking a few years off, getting an itch to come back and then become a Mack Brown 70s aged coach to rebuild a 2-10 floundering post-Saban Bama program. That I could see happening but that would take a LOT of conditions.
Then again, a lot of folks thought Les Miles would eventually end up at Michigan

Everyone in the Big12 is an after thought except OU & UT. I’m not saying that it should be that way, I’m just saying that it IS that way. TAMU is a huge school and they finally had enough of OU & UT looking down their noses at them. UT takes the cake for greediest, most self-serving, arrogant, dictator school in any conference in the country. There is no reason for a Coach like Mulkey to remain in the Big12 and play peasant to UT’s “Caesar complex”.

Meh. Bear said it better and WAY more succinctly years ago:

"Mama called. And when Mama calls, you just have to come runnin'"
But I am NOT trying to lose Dabo for a loooong time. That's why we have to wish Satan, I mean Saban, lots of success when he is not playing Clemson.

A key difference is

that LSU is not currently good in women's basketball and doesn't have much history so she has the chance to build something there.
As opposed to Alabama, that is already the king of the hill of college football, so Dabo would be following a legend and be expected to win national titles from the start.

Plus, it is widely reported that there was absolutely no love loss between the Baylor administration and Mulkey.
So, if you're Clemson just avoid hiring a football/Christian/small town hating AD from the Ivey League and you should be good.

The next coach at Alabama will struggle mightily with the "you don't want to be the one to follow a legend" syndrome. See Ray Perkins who followed Bear Bryant and Mike DuBose who followed Gene Stallings.
