If you are actually worried about VT......

Sep 24, 2017, 12:55 AM

You have not been paying attention. They have played WVU, Delaware (1AA), ECU, and Old Dominion. The best team they played gave up 367 rushing yards to KANSAS. They are about to get embarrassed on their own field in front of the country next week.

yep and BC hadnt done much this year but they had us sweating for a good long while this week. VT will be fired up and give us a full does. We can and should win but if we play like today we wont because not sharp is being very kind

I worry about every opponent. I do like the team's chances against a freshman QB tho that only has 1 experienced WR.

Which ever is easiest for you.

Gameday is going to be there. Let's hope that Corso picks VT.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We shouldn't be worried and we are clearly the better team;

Sep 24, 2017, 2:34 AM

however, if we bring anything other than our A game then VT is more than capable of pulling out the W.

Agree. Thinking VT has any chance against us is as foolish as thinking Pitt could beat the national champs.

Oops.

VT's competition to date has not been anywhere near what we have played, but make no mistake - Justin Fuentes is a really good coach and VT is a solid team perfectly capable of beating us. If we go skipping into Blacksburg sleep walking through the first 3 quarters like we did in Death Valley yesterday then things probably won't turn out so well for us.

At the end of the day - it's really not about VT; it's about Clemson. Clemson does not need to play above our abilities to beat VT. We do have to play to our talent potential and stop turning the ball over. Do that and Clemson wins without a lot of hand wringing. Bring that crap pass blocking and unfocused effort like we did yesterday then hold on to your guts because VT is gonna give us their best shot.

110 percent effort will win this game for the Tigers. Turn the ball over or play soft as we did yesterday at times and it will be a long night. It doesn't matter who VTech has played this year. They will be all in for the Tigers. B
YOG or a long ride home awaits you. I bet coach S knows this and relays the message all week to our team.

This same approach will have to be followed as we prepare for the game in Raleigh. Get by these two and the road to
Pasadena gets shorter!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I agree that the BC game may have been good for yall

Sep 25, 2017, 1:51 AM [ in reply to Re: If you are actually worried about VT...... ]

Clemson is clearly the better team. That said, had you guys played the first three quarters in Blacksburg the way you did against BC, you'd be entering the 4th quarter with a deficit of 14 or more.

But I certainly do not anticipate that happening. I really worry about the mismatch that is your DL vs our OL. I also worry about our DL wearing down since we really don't have any decent backup DTs. A couple weeks ago I would have said we only have one decent backup DE as well, but I think we have another one now. One of our starting DEs can also play some DT. But that is still quite thin overall.

I'm seeing a game that is within reach most of the way, before Clemson pulls ahead in the last 10 minutes or so. I wouldn't even be shocked if we held the lead going into the 4th. But I can't see it lasting. I'm not sure how we consistently drive the field. And I don't think our lines hold up throughout the game.

Halftime: Virginia Tech 7 Clemson 7
Final: Clemson 27 Virginia Tech 10

I do hope I'm wrong of course.

Well so far we have played good on Offense 2 times out of 4 games.
Really only 1 , I don't count Kent St.
VT has a very good D coach and he has plenty of tape to come up with a game plan.
We knew the passing game was not going to be our strong suit but it's got to get better.
VT might be the best team we have faced this year and it won't be easy.
We are putting too much pressure on our D and it's going to eventually bite us.

Everyone has a different definition of "worried" when it comes to sports, but you better believe that VT is capable of beating us.

Sep 24, 2017, 11:14 AM

While I think it is all about playing to the standard, I would never dismiss VT while Foster us there. Last I recall, they stayed in the game last year because we let them, so we know they won't quit unless we make them.

offense. When teams play us tight we tend to struggle. BC played press coverage on the outside, jamming our receivers rather than giving them a cushion. They had their strong safety up close, anticipating the short passes and the running game.

Yet rather than attacking this with slants (I counted 2), TE posts, etc, we continually ran WR screens, outs, slow developing runs, and other lateral plays that basically went right into the strength of their strategy. This put us into third and long situations where we either didn't make the catch or the line didn't pick up the blitz and there was too much pressure.

While the OL experts on here will blame the line for all this, the truth is it was playcalling and strategy that put us in such an anemic position for the first 3 quarters of this last game. I would expect Virginia Tech to use this same strategy and to mix in some zone blitzes as well. Our defense will do well against VT for sure, but if our offense struggles similarly then they might dig too big of a hole to get out of.

OK here's the deal. Yes VT probably would beat BC by a larger margin than we did. You want to know why? BC shot their load yesterday in Death Valley and I do not think any amount of the blue pill will help them get it up again.

I worry about every game because we are now the hunted rather than the hunter. Every team we play will be looking at a big target on our back. Yes, on paper we should win, but football is not a paper game, it's a slam-bang game on the field that produces cuts and bruises and a frequent upset. That's one reason I don't predict a score or bet on a game.

and you wouldn't make much of a coach. They'll be a tough out and we'll need to play our best game. I believe we will, but every game is its own story and they'll be jacked.
