Totally agree. Would eliminate 12 team playoff discussion as there aren’t more than 2-3 worthy teams each year. 4th team always a tweener

...wouldn't be the same teams that earned the bowl bids. Different players, possibly different coaches. Don't understand how that improves things except for opt-outs I guess. Would make for interesting opening games though. Is that the point?

BretFSU - I wouldn't like portal players and freshman and RS freshmen being the representatives for "that previous team" in your scenario.

Teams change year by year and the team that did or didn't make the bowl should get to play in it. What of the seniors who helped the school qualify for it? They would then not get to finish.

I think there is enough money to give the players a small percentage based on numbers from 7 years ago as reported in this article.

The sponsor should hold back 10% of the conference payout for each player opting out, then donate what is not paid to charity.
