CLEMSON by not asking CLEMSON/FSU to join when they had the chance. The SEC will be fine without those 2 - but would have been even better with them. They'll figure that out when that 2-by-4 hits them in the head enough times. You can't fix stupid.

This may end up being true. If all go to 16, where does the SEC get number 15 and 16 now? Not from the ACC... and Texas isn't going anywhere; nor Oklahoma...

So they could try and pull WV? and who? Cinn?

If the SEC told Clemson it would pay $25 million of the buyout, you don't think there would be a move?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

are you kidding me, 25 mil is a ton of money still

Sep 12, 2012, 4:23 PM

people were complaining about how to pay Bowden's boyoutt which was pennies compared to 25 mil

I think the SEC would still raid the Big 12 for new markets

Why does the SEC need to go to 16? How many conferences have

Sep 12, 2012, 1:42 PM

16 members? The SEC will have a new and very lucrative TV contract at the end of the year PLUS establishing the SEC Network. I think the way things have evolved for the SEC and the ACC is perfect, as is.

The SEC isn't expanding unless Texas or someone similar calls up and asks in.

by not asking VT/NCSU to join when they had the chance....

Clemson and FSU were never on the SEC's radar. They were looking to ad TV sets and that's what NCSU and VT would have given them.

But I agree otherwise. I don't know where they are going to pull two other teams.

The SEC didn't want them and will not start wanting them. maybe the SEC eventually wished they took VT and NCSU earlier. The 50 million may slow down someone's leaving but it will not stop it. If an ACC school wants to go and another conference wants them to come it will get done, even if the other conference pays the fee.

The reason the SEC wanted VT and NCSU is for added markets (maybe-maybe not). CLEMSON/FSU are better choices for the SEC - PERIOD. The SEC is just too dayum stupid to understand it.

The first time Alabama, Auburn, UT, UF, UGA, or SUC had to actually go to VT or NCSU venues and play in front of empty stands, the SEC would actually almost understand their mistake. But then again - stupid is so hard to fix.

oh - and let's not forget those thundersticks (is that what you call them?), that NCSU has to help make up for the noise that the lack of fans in the stands creates. lol - I would almost pay to see that. Let's hope that the SEC picks up those 2 schools. This is going to be funny.

yeah, the leadership of the SEC turned it into the premier conference in the nation by being stupid. that makes sense. nobody is arguing that vt and ncsu are better products. they make more sense for the sec, though, and it really isnt up for debate. it is crystal clear that for tv money they are the better choices. the really smart people running these conferences all know that.
