Not without a signature win we wouldn't.

yes but if we punch it in on 4 and 1 at the 1 then maybe the D does not have to save us.

Heck. If they get a 1st down with 2 minutes to play LV would not have had a chance to have 4th & goal to win or lose the game. The offense barely did enough to win the game.

What I’m having trouble with is all the extra good QBs in the league and we can’t score touchdowns, Please tell me how WF or Louisville orUVA or Pitt can be stronger at that possession than the Clemson Tigers. We aren’t even close and there are several others who out perform our super stars!

I’m glad the defense is strong or we would be on the outside looking in!

I predict that the Tigers will beat UConn and score at least 20 points. Go Tigers

Re: Better question is how did our offense not score on

Well Pitt and Wake have had their quarterback there since KB2 was the starter at Clemson (let that sink in). Louisville's guy has been their starter for 3 years now. Not sure about UVA. They're aren't on the schedule so I have no clue about them.

Re: Better question is how did our offense not score on

Nov 8, 2021, 12:31 PM

A great point made on the QBs. If TL had hung around for 6 years, we'd likely be in a better place on offense. I think the current rules are getting a bit absurd. It seems if you have a really good QB, you get punished because he'll go to the NFL. If you have a pretty good QB, he plays forever. I'm old and just don't understand. I guess money talks.

Nov 8, 2021, 11:28 AM [ in reply to Re: Better question is how did our offense not score on ]

Which one has a true sophomore QB following the number 1 draft pick in the draft?

Which one has the turmoil on the O-line like we have?

Which one has drops and busted routes like we have had?

We as fans are spoiled ....

The move to put Ross back on the outside and the emergence of Beaux Collins in the slot; which he sees comfortable with is paying dividends already. Ngata out hurts but we still have EJ, Ajou Ajou and Dacari left.

DJ pulled and ran the RPO multiple times against LVille, he has not done that all year... it's there for a reason he has to be able to make that read and pull it when the D end crashes down. Make the D end play an honest position.

We are getting better, not championship better but we are improving with a very young team...

Nov 8, 2021, 11:04 AM [ in reply to Better question is how did our offense not score on ]

I question the play calling on that series.

Louisville had at least eight in the box and even with a weak OL, we continued to try to pound the ball off tackle.

Exactly.

Nov 8, 2021, 11:07 AM

Up the middle with a struggling O line. Made no sense. The play calling was good with the go ahead touchdown run by DJ though. Not sure what Tony is thinking sometimes.

Re: Honestly...

Nov 8, 2021, 11:38 AM [ in reply to Honestly... ]

recall we are not in that position if we don't snap the ball past DJ the previous play that were are lucky did not end up as a significant loss or turnover. We can't call a play where we don't snap the ball.

Allen ran a route on the goal line and it looks like DJ was targeting him the whole time. DJ makes a poor throw on that play and Allen has to go low to get it instead of in stride. The ball placement was pretty bad on that play as well, spotted on the 1.5 yard line instead of 1 (worst case) or inside the one (closer to reality).

Beef package, Mahfa did not follow his lead beef blocker (33)... if he does he may have scored (nothing is 100%) as it was he was down on the 6" line... my gut is that Pace or Shipley score... the left guard was also beat on the play and disrupted the flow. I am 99% certain the idea of the play is to follow the beef to the end zone or at least to the line and make the cut from there.

Also of note I see our O-line standing around alot and not pushing the pile when there is a pile...

Re: Honestly...

Tony probably would state that he is playing chess while everyone is playing checkers. Have 25 runs up the middle is just setting up the defense to defend against that jet sweep.. oh.. wait.. hmm, the tightend curl or cross in the middle.. hmm... yeah, lets try that again. Oh, right, setting up for the run up the middle, that was it!

We all know that our O line is really good at driving the D off the ball so I would run a power I and punch it in, wait that was the play call.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

2 great defensive plays (1st and 2nd down)

Nov 8, 2021, 10:55 AM

And 2 bad play calls (mixed with good defense) for a hobbled QB. They showed zero interest in any sort of play action or RPO. Potentially the last play had an RPO component, but the QB quickly abandoned it.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

IT didn't hurt that the QB had a bum ankle.***

Nov 8, 2021, 10:58 AM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Indeed, thats why I mentioned he was hobbled

Nov 8, 2021, 11:01 AM

The first down play likely scores if he has a good ankle or if the WR on the outside even tried to block our CB. As it is the CB made a great play after slipping to the turf.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Tiger Thom, I think the 4th down call was RPO with the pass

Nov 8, 2021, 1:41 PM [ in reply to 2 great defensive plays (1st and 2nd down) ]

being WR pick play but our DBs traded off when they ran the pick so he still had no where to throw nor ay room to run. It was a heads up play by the DBs so I;m sure they've been coached to look for that espacially on a 4th down or close to the end zone play.

The defense held strong. Louisville also cut off half the field on 2 different plays. Cunningham is a great athlete but to roll him out to one side of the field that close was ineffective.
