If I’m being honest, I’m not really sure what we’ve been spending our practice time on

on the offensive side of the ball.

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a Clemson offense look so unprepared.

agreed - you'd also think that (outside of UGA) playing games would be much easier than practicing against our own defense. The other scary part is they seem to be regressing, not improving

They’re definitely regressing. It makes no sense.

It really reminded me of Rob Spence in that

Sep 18, 2021, 10:51 PM

he was only going to do the one thing he knew how to do. And once it was stopped, that was it. Just hopelessness watching our Offense flounder around.

This was Rob Spence bad. But then again, I'm not sure he ever had a 18 passes for 126 yards night, like we did tonight. Being a 27 point favorite.....ugh

Fresh minds and new ideas are needed are the offensive side of the ball.

We never, ever adjust our play calling. Same thing for 4 quarters.

The OSU defense had a few bad games and now their DC is no longer calling plays. Until the same thing happens here we will continue to suck.

We don’t want Dabo calling plays. He is a CEO coach not Xs and Os.

He supposedly already has a significant role in the play calling.***

I’ve been wondering exactly the same thing. It’s as if they thought TL was coming back. They did absolutely nothing to modify the offense to fit a pocket passer and a group of WRs with no playmakers. I don’t want to hear anything about WRU anymore.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I was wondering the same thing. Seems like we’re regressing.***

Yes this is more of a return to the days under Tommy Bowden when we would run to running plays up the middle, and then run streaks looking for a bust on every third down. Zero imagination, zero misdirection, just nothing

Dabo is the king of Clemson football, there’s no doubt about it, that’s why it’s so surprising to see such a pitiful display on the offense of side of the ball

Make no mistake, DJ looks horrible, almost like a Tight End who was pressed into QB duty due to injury. However, it’s almost like that became the case after our coaches got ahold of him.

I still say, all this goes back to hiring inexperienced coaches who would not have been put in the positions their in now at any other school.

Tony Elliott had absolutely zero resume to be a offensive coordinator at a Top 5 program. Sometimes those shots in the dark work out, but your kind of bucking the odds when you do it over and over again.

Thanks God for B.V.

Fix the issue by hiring a veteran coordinator who has experience with turning not very good QB’s into serviceable QB’s. Caldwell has to go. Watching Auburn run the ball tonight after just 3 games with a new coach made me sick. Again, he has to go.

This season is going to everyone’s heart health as I don’t see us being able to score enough to pull away from anyone.

Having said that, i think Dabo will definitely fix it after the season . Meanwhile, for the next 9 Saturdays have the beer and bourbon nearby and enjoy some nailbitters

Just wait til Brent leaves and Levon Kirkland is named DC.***

Agreed. You're paying most of our coordinators and position coaches like they are world class. The only coordinator who deserves every penny is Brent Venables. Tony Elliot is a great person, great speaker, and ambassador for the University but there is 0 reason to believe that TE is a top 5 offensive coordinator right now. There is a reason why anytime we play teams with a pulse we consistently get out coached, and out physicaled.

You can still have a family culture and have former players on staff but having them be the pillars of your program as OC's or DC's without significant head coaching experience just adds to the problem. The program needs an influx of new energy and revitalization.

If you take the salary of Tony Elliott, Robby Caldwell, and Joey Batson you could legitimately hire a true top 5 coordinator, top 3 OL coach in the country, and top 2 Strength and Conditioning Coach.

Re: If I’m being honest, I’m not really sure what we’ve been spending our practice time on

Sep 19, 2021, 8:46 PM

Maybe Clemson could get more than that. I'm pretty sure Tony Elliott is the highest paid OC in college football right now at $2 million/year. With that kind of money Clemson could get anybody in the country.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: If I’m being honest, I’m not really sure what we’ve been spending our practice time on

We need a new OC.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Maybe out defense has been so tough that

Sep 19, 2021, 7:39 AM

they can't figure out any plays that work well.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Correct. Third game in, or a quarter of the season, if you

Sep 19, 2021, 8:13 AM

want to look at it that way, and QB and receivers are obviously nowhere near the same page on routes vs throws. We have just been flat out lucky that some of the errant throws didn't wind up in the other team's hands.

Past teams have taken it upon themselves to put in extra work to make it happen during showtime.

This QB1 and WR1's need a LOT of that from the looks of things to get in Cinco.

They almost look as bland, un-creative and bad offensively this year as all of Brad Brownell’s teams have looked offensively. Not a shot at you judge but you making the comment made me think about it in all honesty l.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Offense is definitely the weak link on our basketball teams.

Sep 19, 2021, 8:44 PM

The difference is that Brad’s assistants are paid below the national average for assistant coaches, not among the highest.

And he recruits to a program that isn’t a basketball school and supports it as such. In other words, a far cry from Clemson football.

That isn’t to say that Brad can’t put together better offenses. I believe he can. But despite that, we fight well above our weight class in basketball and that is because of great coaching.

I’m not seeing that great coaching in our football program lately. The last couple of years, we beat up on the teams we are way better than, and struggle against most of the teams with comparable talent. This year, we are now struggling with teams with way less talent. That’s concerning.
