If DJ decides to transfer mid season

Dec 19, 2021, 2:32 PM

Who will our backup be? Helms? Weis? How would y’all feel about them playing if Cade got hurt?

Re: If DJ decides to transfer mid season

It would be Helms, although if DJ transfers mid year, it would either because Cade won the job and/or he stunk up the joint. If it looks to be going that route in the spring, I’d think Dabo would bring in a body for depth through the portal.

Nonsense scenario? Kelly Bryant would disagree.

This post is reality.

This is a Lawrence/Kelly and Caleb/Rattler situation. And it doesn't help DJ is worse than all of those QBs. If he stays like he is now or improves too little he's gone. Last season he ranked dead last out of all qbs in the country with at least 250 attempts. 120-126 overall. -.6 points average per pass attempt. He's godawful how he is right now. Caleb would start day 1 if he doesn't improve and Junor QBs transfer in that situation.

If two of our running backs get hurt in the first game, and the second game is on the road, and that road game is in the rain, and the center gets sick before the game, who will snap the ball to the quarterback?

Dude go away.

Except my scenario is more likely to happen than yours. I’m not sure what you were trying to say, but I’m saying I’m not sure how I would feel if we had someone with little experience at the college level leading our team.

The guy is asking a legit question about a reasonable scenario, which oh-by-the way just happened to us a couple of years ago. Why the jacka$$ response?

Re: If DJ decides to transfer mid season

Despite what many people theorize about "Big Dave," I believe that DJ will get sound enough advice between Big Dave and Dabo to wait out until the end of the 2022 regular season before hitting the portal (of course, assuming that DJ loses the QB job to C.Klubnik).

If by some chance Klubnik becomes starter ~ mid-year, DJ will still get good reps in games which Clemson is winning handily. DJ's value becomes more apparent when he's playing, as opposed to sitting in some dark room playing video games after hitting the portal.

Of course, we are all hoping that the light comes on for the entire Clemson offense next year (including but not limited to QB), and DJ has a terrific year and Klubnik gets lots of meaningful playing time.

The ideal scenario is for DJ to somehow get this thing turned around and ball out next year enough to go pro. Then Cade take over or DJ balls out for 2 years and Cade takes over would not hurt either.

I really don’t see DJ transferring mid year. CK is coming in January and by the spring game they will have a pretty good idea where they stand. He can transfer up until May and still play in the fall. My guess is he either transfers before the May deadline or he plays the whole year.

Our players and recruit’s read Tigernet and other social media. In your post you have already benched DJ. It was his first season starting at the college level and you already have him in the TP mid season.

I not trying to be rude or disrespectful to you or anyone else, but I do not think post like yours and other negative post are beneficial. DJ may win the Heisman next year. Give the kid a break. We have to many fans whose constantly criticize players and coaches. What do you think is accomplished from those kind of post??

Our football and basketball programs need fan support. I am “All In” with Dabo and Brad.

Can anyone please tell me how it benefits Clemson to call out players or coaches for mistakes during play or to berate our coaches because of a loss. Our Coach’s sacrifice family time and personal time to put the best team on the field of play. I don’t care how much money our coach’s make personal attacks are cheap shots and uncalled for. How would you like it if it was your kid being called out and blamed for the team’s adversity?? IMO it does hurt our recruiting.

It’s a team win and a team loss. And none of our players or coaches like losing either. Positive fan support is what Clemson needs to get back stop the negative comments and calling out player’s. We need to show that excitement and energy and that we believe now as we did when we started building an elite football team. And we need to keep giving our Basketball team the same support.

I get disappointed when we lose games to. But it put that loss into perspective with what else is important in life. I not perfect I have made an idiot of myself over a loss. Nobody’s perfect. I just think we should try to be as positive as possible about sports, work, family and life in general. I am including myself in there too.

Maybe our recruiting is down because we have lost some of that excitement, energy, and family culture that drew so many kids to Clemson.

WuEagle ... I like your posts and respect you and DJ. That said, the only way Klubnick does not beat out DJ by mid-season is if he's injured. Klubnick is faster, quicker, more accurate, more composed, extroverted, and will be a better leader.

I read a lot of posts on Tnet about Stoudt & Watson and Bryant & TL16 competitions. Most favored the incumbent. Many many posts said there was no way DW4 or TL16 could win the starting job. At the end of the day, it's best man up based on who can help the team, the coaching staff, and the university. Dabo Swinney will create a tough trajectory for Klubnick but rest assured Klubnisk will gain weight and know the playbook as well as DJ by March 2022.

Best man up. Just like other positions.

Re: If DJ decides to transfer mid season

Dec 19, 2021, 5:19 PM

I agree with you SocMan. Cade may win the Job as our starting QB, but we still need DJ. What people seemed to have forgotten is we had WR’s and TE’s that made DW and TL look much better than they were at times. When DJ filled in for TL he did a great Job. But he had a couple of elite WR’s, plus Hunter Renfrow and ETN. That WR group could make several QB’s look better. This year we did have a lot of dropped balls and fumbles that we had trouble overcoming.

I am excited about next season even though we lost some great coaches and players. The young kid’s will be veterans next season and I believe DJ will show that same talent he displayed while subbing for Trevor.

Some pressure was put on DJ in the Spring and before the season that the pressure increased ever game. DW, TL and DJ were prone to toss some interceptions. I believe if DJ will just be himself and can ignore any criticism he will play well next season. We need at least 1 Tee Higgins, Mike Williams or Hunter Renfrow who rarely dropped passes. They made several awesome catches for TL.

If we want to continue recruiting Nationally we have to stop throwing highly ranked players under the bus. Plus we will have to overcome NIL and the TP.

I still believe in DJ and my Tigers.

Great points all around. I do believe that recruiting may have taken a hit with all this negativity. But it's not just on Tigernet. Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, its everywhere. Maybe less so in Instagram, but that is where the majority of the players are active online from what i can tell.

It is sad to read a measured, rational, and positive thoughts, then every reply under it is "yeah but, here is my negativity." They learn nothing.

While I’m not sure DJ can hold off Cade, I hope DJ stays regardless. He’s a good kid and has been nothing but class from day one. I like his old man too. They’re Clemson people and I would hate to see him leave. Best case, DJ balls out and let’s Cade learn for a year but there’s a chance Cade is just better. If that’s the case, hopefully DJ learned first hand this year that if you’re 2nd Team and working hard, you’re always potentially one snap away from being the starter again.

Maybe our recruiting is down because we have lost some of that excitement, energy, and family culture that drew so many kids to Clemson.

Either that or not being able to pass, coach or develop our players and finishing 3rd in the ACC.

DJ will not get beat out by Cade this coming season. For everyone comparing this to other scenarios Bryant was not a 5 star QB. Game plan will be changed to accommodate DJs abilities

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We've learned from DJ being 5-star doesn't mean a thing

Dec 21, 2021, 12:15 AM

He was a 5-star recruit 2 years ago. It's about performance on the field once a player is in college. He was worse this year than Kelly Bryant ever was.

IMO, it depends how quickly Cade develops because DJ has way too many problems to fix. I will be surprised if Cade doesn't win the starting job during the season.

The leash on DJ will be much shorter in 2022 than it was this year.
