If Dabo can fire Napier, why can’t he fire Elliott?

Oct 12, 2021, 7:54 PM

Drop off from Elliott was more significant than Napier’s.

A) He obviously can... the question is WILL he
B) Napier didn't have TE's history of success

I don't think, if our struggles continue this year and stretch into next, that TE would be in any way immune from being replaced. I just don't think Dabo will do it after 5 games. Nor do I necessarily think he SHOULD at this point.

He could but don’t count on it even if we continue on this course. Discussions yesterday on what coaches were on the hot seat and the potential openings for next year (LSU, USC, Miami, etc.) and who may fill them.

TE was brought up briefly but was it stated his stock is dropping due to our struggles this year. If doubtful he’s offered a job and Dabo will not make a change - we are where we will be. Let’s hope he digs back into the playbook when we used to do the window dressing (sweeps, fake sweeps, motion) and becomes more creative. We need a better coaching effort, and results, across the board (minus Coach V) and a greater player development. If things stay as is, the results will be the same, without improvement from our coaches.

Agreed. Why qould he now ? Let's pump the brakes on the FIRE TE stuff and see if he fixes the problem , see if we get stronger the rest of the way.

If you could find your way here, why can’t you find FGF?

Oh my Lord that is so far off it is sad. What did we win with Napier? Back in the summer, I was among the first to say our OL and QB were inexperienced and they are. What I did not realize is how slow our WR were and how good Georgia would be. Without all the injuries, we win in Raleigh but we are not as talented as we have been. Tony Elliott is not a magician and cannot make players be something they are not, at least yet.

Let me ask you a question, how do you display

Oct 12, 2021, 8:15 PM

your Paw? On car, house, yard or some other way? Your answer is important because I'm not sure you're at the right place. Not trying to be personal, but a lot of people just post something and then leave. Just confirming your sincerity. Thanks in advance for your time and effort.

Dabo wanted a new offensive style at that point

Oct 12, 2021, 8:34 PM

Napier was just the temporary solution to the Rob Spence situation.

Why do many fans feel firing someone will return Clemson to the top 4?? Will firing Tony Elliot solve Clemson’s offensive problems. It’s hard to rebound when you lose a once in a generation QB Trevor Lawrence, RB Travis ETN, OL Jackson Carmon, WR / Athlete Amari Rodgers and other talented players who made great contributions to Clemsons success.

Read article below about Tony Elliot before you jump on the Fire Him wagon!

If Dabo is going to fire TE, he won't do it until after the season is over...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It won’t happen - Dabo was Elliotts position

Oct 12, 2021, 10:10 PM

Coach. He is Dabo’s guy. Napier was just another guy on the staff with Dabo that he could keep by promoting an giving a guy he likes a shot. Big ####### difference.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

And that's the double edged sword of hiring former players

Oct 13, 2021, 6:47 AM

that Dabo has a close, long-term personal relationship with. It will be astronomically harder for Dabo to fire any of his former players than it was to fire Billy Napier. The advantage to having former players as coaches is that they instantly fit into Dabo's Clemson culture. The negative side is that when one of these coaches has folks not performing to "best is standard" Dabo has to overcome a natural bias towards his coaches in evaluating the problem. I'm not saying Dabo can't overcome this bias but when dealing with folks that you consider family - it can jade how you view a problem.

IMO our offensive scheme and play calling need some re-tooling. Can Elliott do that re-tooling - and re-invigorate our offense so that it is less predictable? I imagine he can so long as he and Dabo "recognize" the need to make changes to our scheme and spend the next off-season doing it.

However, based on their comments I don't think Dabo or Elliott think we need to change anything with our offensive scheme. They seem to believe our offensive struggles are execution problems and not scheme related. If the players aren't executing - then why? Is it coaching? Is it player inexperience?

Do all of you “All World Armchair Coaches” really think that Coach Elliot has forgotten how to coach since last January? Really??? Do you honestly think that Coach Dabo can’t evaluate his employees all of a sudden? Sit back, enjoy college football and, remember how much CU’s trophy case has grown in the past 8-10 years. They ain’t done yet.

People weren't that thrilled with his coaching last year either, so I don't think they think he forgot. From what I have gathered on here they don't think he was every that good.

I agree that there were negative comments during the past season but at some point a team has to reload. No need to start cleaning house.
