If Cade can consistently run 100 plays

Jan 2, 2023, 8:42 AM

This offense just might be heading back to the old days, that’s not an easy task to do winning or losing. Yes the scoreboard was terrible, the play calling once across the 50 was mind numbing at times but Cade isn’t the type to make the same mistake repeatedly. As far as growth for him couldn’t ask for a better start because that was about as bad as it gets with pressure. The kid is a competitor have a feeling they’ll be working a lot over the off season. If he can get a little more comfortable in the pocket and learn how to read pressures a little better the skys the limit for him. But to be able to run that many plays while getting knocked around like a rag doll is no small feat the kid kept playing until the very end.

Nothing is going back to the “old days” until……

Jan 2, 2023, 8:48 AM

Streeter is gone
Grisham is gone
We get new ELITE WRs
Dabo starts using the portal

We’ll start with those four. Many other things need to change as well.

What about Pheebo's status?

Jan 2, 2023, 8:55 AM

Keep him? Move him? Promote him? PR manager maybe?

How 'bout banning folks if their pulse remains below 90% for 30 consecutive days?

Lol, a time-out or a vacay might be good for all of us***

“poor kids are just as bright and just as talented as white kids.”

100+ plays per game is the Norm with CK2

Jan 2, 2023, 8:51 AM

we just didn't score. Everything else looked great. CK2 practicing against the defense starters is about to make our DBs great, too

Next Season is going to be a good one!

** I rewatched the game twice this weekend. TBH, i didn't see anything broken. Just missed opportunities that came from young young players playing and SEC defense that has played Goergia and Alabama.

One of the things I noticed is Tennessee went fast could of run 200 plays if they didn't score in about the first 4 plays every drive. We run 100 plays and we sub too much. Tennessee's WRs would run 40 yard routes and race back to the line of scrimmaged go again. We would run deep routes and sub. If you are going to run that many plays you have to balance it with substitutions the point is to wear down the defense.

TU for the underrated point here on plays and subs. Great point. They were scoring fast, albeit 7s, and generally should’ve been putting their defense in a scenario where they’d get more tired, Clemson was ahead on TOP all game iirc. But we kept subbing and allowing them to sub more. Also running our backs more would’ve helped this.

Cade played quite well...considering....

Jan 2, 2023, 10:37 AM

His lack of game experience and lack of first team reps (his statement) until ACCCG week.

Throwing the ball 53 times (behind THAT OL) was not a recipe for success for any young QB....nor is running him 20ish times. Coaches needed to support their very young/inexperienced QB with the run game MUCH more...particularly when it started working later in the game. Streeter said as much after the game. Its a recurring theme this year (not running the ball enough).

Believe I saw Mafah got seven carries and had a 5.6 YPC. Needed to feed him and Ship more to stop the teeing off on Cade by the UT D. I was at the game but several ppl told me the TV announcers were questioning why we didn't run the ball more

Yeah the gameplan was definitely lacking that’s for sure just impressed with how the kid handled it

Agreed MJC...

Jan 2, 2023, 10:43 AM

Loved what I saw out of him.

Truth be told, we were very close to hitting several plays that would've changed the whole outcome of the game....I just wish we would've taken a bit more off his plate. Mafah was the perfect back against their size.

Cade is going to be a very good QB. His deep passes (over 25 yards) have a bit too much arc to them (you could see that at the game)....but I think increased arm-strength will help that tremendously.

He will get it, I think an entire off season in the weight room will have him deadly next season

Quite a few of Cade’s 20 “rushes” were pass plays that he ended up scrambling including 4 sacks. Taking that into account, we’ll more than 60 plays were intended to be passes. I agree that is too many. Ship and Mafa had a combined 24 carries which sounds like a good number but really isn’t when you run 101 plays.

Absolutely need more balance and I think we will get there, just excited to see this young core grow together. Think some tend to overlook how young we are at a lot of positions, we haven’t begun to see what this group will be capable of.

More big plays and more scoring. I don't think 100 plays means much. JMO

Jan 2, 2023, 11:19 AM

I think it says quite a bit about the speed we can play with Cade and the ability to move the ball. With added strength and maturity I’m looking forward to watching him next year I think he flourishes

2024 orange level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I totally agree. He will learn to step up in the pocket

Jan 2, 2023, 12:11 PM

instead of scrambling to his right every time. His ability to run will accelerate his learning curve.
