If a kid is unhappy with his playing situation he should be

Dec 17, 2021, 1:27 PM

allowed to enter the transfer portal.

BUT, no one from another program should be allowed to contact a player until they have officially entered the portal. Programs who are caught contacting non-portal players should lose scholarships.

The NCAA has lots of money to make sure that programs are not able to actively poach players from other programs.

They sure appear to be doing a lousy job.

I think they should have been able to foresee the problems with the portal (& the NIL) but give them a littler time to adjust and let's see what happens.

I doubt the NCAA will fix anything. They simply have no power to stop the big boys from cheating.

I agree but, at what point do the "adults" have to step in and figure out a way to regulate this. Roughly 70% dropped down a level. 20% went up or transferred to another P5. 10% didn’t find a new school. So how do you let these kids, who were highly recruited out of high school, know they just aren't good enough as a starter and should really just focus on their degree? I mean in a situation like Zerrick Cooper a few years ago with us, he realized he wasn't an FBS guy and dropped down and did pretty well at JSU (i think where he went?) and got his degree. But my concern is for the %10 who are missing out on a free education because their mom says they deserve a chance and they got a trophy in high school so they must be deserving of a start.

Simple, start holding athletes to the same admission requirements as non-athletes.

Make sure that they can do the work on the college level before playing a college sport is even discussed.

That way we at least have some confidence if football doesn’t work out that they will have the intellect to get a degree and hopefully have a productive career outside of sports.

Big time athletics are making a joke out of “higher education.” All of the schools who participate - including Clemson - would ideally stand up and speak out against the current system, but they won’t because they love their sports too much.

Hey, JJC do you mind telling me where you got your % from. I'd like to look at that more closely.

Hate i just saw this almost a month later, but here is the SI article that addresses it and gives the statistics.

Please get serious. Prohibiting contact is a joke

Throwing the transfer portal wide-open with no restrictions means it's open season to recruit players on CFB rosters 24/7/365. When I say 24/7/365, that includes during games.

Michigan State showed everyone the way in 2021. Going forward, they won't have that advantage and may regret opening the vault to Mel Tucker. We'll see.

Bad news: with NIL, schools don't need scholarships anymore.
