If a kid is unhappy with his playing situation he should

Dec 17, 2021, 2:56 PM

spend more time and work harder than his peers to improve his game, attitude, grades, etc.

He should NOT look for a quick and easy short cut by entering the transfer portal.

losing a sense of entitlement would help as well.

Let’s see….elementary school, middle school, high school, college, and grad school. So that’s 5. Unless you count the many two week “training schools” I’ve attended through work over the years. Then many many more.

that's a decent example... was it "easy"

Dec 17, 2021, 3:33 PM

especially highs chool?

I dunno about your town but our HS was fed by 3 mid schools . 33% of my classes were with kids i'd never seen before... and the onces that were from my mid school were kids i didn't like.

I can only imagine, but if i spent a year at a place with group of coaches and players, it would be difficult to up and go some where else. start all over.

Much smaller. 1 elm, 1 mid, 1 high. High school was definitely the toughest for me considering getting caught up with the wrong crowd. Lots of challenges to overcome and things to persevere through. But I kept working hard and stuck it out. I’m pretty happy with my current situation. But never once thought about dropping out and getting a GED because it was “so much easier” like many of my friends of the time.

Agree, if I invested so much time and built those relationships, I doubt it would be an easy decision. If it was even a decision I considered at all.

What I meant by “easy” is a lot of these kids are thinking “if I can’t beat out so and so, I can just transfer to school xxxx and become an instant starter.

I know that’s not always the case, but I fear that attitude has become increasingly more visible in kids this season.

It doesn’t matter what they should do

The portal exists and it’s not going away. How many of these posts are we going to see?

As many as you keep clicking on and reading. It doesn’t matter how many portal posts there are.

Why do you get to decide some kid's future?

Dec 17, 2021, 3:48 PM

Because it makes it more convenient for you to follow your favorite college team?

I don’t decide anyones future. But that’s my point. If you want to make a good future for yourself, you have to put in the work. If you don’t get the results you want, you work harder.

Hard work wont over come natural talent when it comes to the best players. If you think everyone is equal you are delusional.

We have recruited the top players at their position in the country for many years now. The talent gap between them is usually pretty slim. Thus the competition usually comes down to who puts in the work/effort/commitment to be great vs who does enough to be good but still likes to go to frat parties.

Actually, there is a foundation here for some changes

Dec 17, 2021, 7:02 PM [ in reply to Why do you get to decide some kid's future? ]

In pro sports, each league is different, once signed by a team, they cant become a free agent after one year unless released by the team. This is so the team can reap some of the investment they make in the player. They took the chance on them. Free agency comes, but not until a specified time period.

The portal is basically free agency. I'm not sure what the total cost for all things a player receives is, but it isn't cheap by any means when you include the training, free health care, all the food, housing, tutoring, and whatever else on top of the actual tuition. Why should the school be liable for the investment in the kid, and be stuck with an empty promise on the whim of a player? And with NIL now they can earn money as well.

It's basically a one year contract. Now, if the school doesn't renew it, the kid is free to move on. But if they do, what's wrong with saying a kid has to stay a minimum of 2 years unless a legit hardship can be shown? Or, as Dabo has suggested, make them sit a year as a penalty, as it was before?

Right now, amateur athletes have more rights than professionals as far as freedom of movement. With the NIL they can place themselves on the open market any time they wish to the highest bidder. If that's not free agency, what is it?

Very well said. Just a set of gloves for one game is over $100 bucks. This statement you have made is so logical it would never be considered by the ncaa.

I believe there comes a realization to some kids that they are not as good as the guy in front of them. Kudos to those that bust their tails to improve but sometimes you may be behind a bigger, faster stud and playing time will be slim to none.

Taisun Phommachanh worked his ### off to get back from his

Dec 17, 2021, 4:42 PM

Achilles injury and be ready to go this season. In spite of DJ's horrendous struggles, TP could not get on the field.

The coaches were basically telling him to transfer.

So I'm guessing all you guys hate Chase Brice for 'quitting' on Clemson and leaving to lead App St to their championship game?

I'm seriously embarrassed to call you guys fellow fans and how you view players.

Chase Brice didn’t quit. He graduated and earned his degree. Commitment fulfilled IMO.

Nice try coot
