Scheussler and Olsen

What is the point of having players especially Olsen(graduate) on the team, on scholarship if they aren't going to play? How many qbs are required on a roster? At some point Stoudts performance/injury warrant some pt for the reserves right? Or are the reserves that bad?

That's what Im asking? At what point does 3rd nd 4th string become 2nd and 3rd or even see the field for a drive or two? Like how Watson started off 2nd string and now he is 1st.

If 2nd string QB is so injured and battered...

that he repeatedly throws horrible interceptions, then yes. The 3rd string QB may become the starter.
Not a good situation, but how effing bad does he have to get before you pull the plug? Thank goodness that Gallman and the OL got it together enough to get us down the field and Seckinger reached back to get that last underthrown pass, or we could have easily lost to a TERRIBLE team even though we have one of the best defenses in the country.
I'm not bashing Stoudt. If he's been playing injured I salute him for that. But at some point you have think our luck is gonna run out with him. It was too close Satdy night against that pathetic Syracuse team. They suck.

I agree with you flying tiger. It is like continuing to drive fast in the rain on bald tires and just because you've barely made it home on them, even though you came so close to running into a tree or another car, you continue driving on them even though you have 2 stacks of new tires in your garage that you haven't trued out yet because you haven't got many reviews on them to go off of.

flyingtiger: you might be interested that I called them on their flopping which bis nothing more than cheating the rules of NCAA college football. I liked your post and yes SU does suck! What they did before the game by taunting our cheerleaders, flag girls and players really pissed me off and I'm surprised more people didn't take note of it. And to make it even worse, went they went back near their bench they got high 5's from that scumbag coaching staff they have. Why the hell did we ever let these a....holes in the ACC ion the first place?

It's hard to recruit a good quarterback to start at the bottom of the depth chart, especially if he is getting offers to other decent schools who can pitch to him that he will be second string/start

in three different places in less than year. Hopefully, he will keep building up, strengthening. I wish Stoudt would run ball control primarily with only occasional pass against Wake and whenever he is in there. He did have good 2nd half thankfully and that last ten min. drive was ball control beauty!

If we have an open scholarship, we are thin at QB, and

The guy will only be around a year, what harm is it to give him a scholarship just in case we had a few bad injuries to the QB position? Giving him a scholarship was more of an afterthought.
We are only 1 play away from Olsen being our #2 guy
To answer your other question: No Max or minimum on the # of QBs you can have.

I think the current situation calls for them to get a lot of snaps in the next game. Why? Think long and hard about that. What if Watson re-injured his finger? Do we want to play GT and SC with Stoudt and have Olsen and Nick with no experience, screw Cole's feelings right now. We really need to rest Stoudt against Wake for two reasons. If Watson can't go, Cole is the most experienced QB we have. If we keep playing him he can't heal from what is ailing him. That is the first reason. The second reason is we are playing a very weak Wake team. Take advantage of it and get your backup QBs some snaps. Also, get Kitt some more experience at WR, O'Daniel at LB, and some of our DBs. I think we know by now we aren't going to get any respect in the polls to the point of something monumental.
Get some guys some experience. No need in playing Anthony 80% of the game against Wake. Play the defensive first string for the first half and get some guys in there. Agree?

Scout team, signal in plays, etc... I bet you can find a lot

of coaches around the country at every level that weren't the star player but have a lot of knowledge about the game. A kid like Olsen who is a graduate student and spent four years at Stanford behind a guy like Andrew Luck probably offers a few more things to the team than just the number of snaps he plays.

You have to have a scout team QB who can at least play a little to get the 1st team defense some reps.
Have you ever been to a practice? They have 20 hours including game day every week to get the QB ready. That leaves less than 15 hours for practice and very little of that is one's on one's. Most teams make a QB change during a open week.

Ok. Makes a little more sense. I guess its a little different than NFL with practice squads and open competition every play of every game. I went to HS with Olsen. Kinda wouldnt mind seeing him play

They put in 50 or 60 hours a week with film study. If you remember when Kyle Parker was here they had to hold him out of spring practice, because he exceeded he's 20 hours playing baseball and practicing football. I bet you'll see him against GA State Coach Swinney will get him in the game.

Olsen never even threw a pass his whole career at Stanford

We literally just needed another body at QB for practice purposes. Olson fills that need. The idea was never to let him get meaningful game action.

Stoudt hasn't played badly enough to be replaced
Oct 26, 2014, 10:48 PM

Or, at least he hasn't played badly enough to be replaced by a guy who walked on or another guy who just transferred in and never played at Stanford. And, obviously, Stoudt isn't injured badly enough to be held out.
I'm not sure why we aren't scoring more with Stoudt at QB, but I also haven't seen him make a whole lot of really bad throws. I'm guessing that one of the problems with our offense has been that Stoudt's coming back as the starter coincided with playing the best defenses on our schedule. If he'd had to come back to play UNC and NC State or for the Wake, GT, Ga State and SCar games, he'd probably have looked a lot better.

Olsen was a solid QB at Irmo and a 4 star recruit, who made a name for himself at Irmo without much talent at WR around him. Schuessler almost avoided a RS at Miss. St., the #1 team in the country currently, had he stayed and not transferred to Clemson. They are capable, but probably haven't gotten a very meaningful amount of reps in practice. Especially Olsen, who is going from a Pro-style offense to a read-option spread attack.
