Am I The Only One…

Jun 30, 2022, 9:36 AM

Am I the only one who thinks the tide has turned regarding NIL?

The best players in the county are starting to see NIL for what it is and want no part of it. It is clear by our latest run up the recruiting rankings that elite recruits are coming to the relaization that being mentored by Dabo Swinney is far more valuable than a few hundred thousand dollars or even a decked out Ford 150 with fender flares, offset wheels and custom exhaust.

I think kids were originally enamored with the idea of driving around college towns in their sweet rides. It was a guarantee that the third string interior lineman would pull more tail than the president of the biggest fraternity on campus who’s dad is a lawyer or owns a chain of Bojangles or some other big business like that. It just proves that kids are smarter today because they access to stuff like Twitter and Tik Tok.

It’s really amazing that it only took a year or so for elite prospects to figure this out. It took me at least ten years to go from believing the only health benefit of cannabis was curing and preventing glaucoma to understanding that cannabis can cure and prevent cancer. I am really hoping that this trend continues.

I'd say it's about 50/50

Jun 30, 2022, 10:10 AM

There are some players like our 5 star QB commit that said some stuff like what you're saying and realizing the NIL is not what they need to be concentrating on. There is also guys like the WR that decommitted and committed to a school that hooked up a 4 star QB with a $9 mil NIL deal.

It will take some consequences to expose the flaws of the NIL, especially if changes aren't made. Some sad stories will emerge in a couple of years. Unfortunately, schools and the NCAA lost a lot of control when the NIL became a court matter.

Yep. It still comes down to the mindset of the recruit. Those that are willing to work for what they get will still value the entire experience of playing at a place like Clemson. And they will still benefit from NIL, just maybe having to work a little more to get it. Those that want instant gratification without necessarily putting in the work will be more likely to follow the fast money.

Man, I absolutely love your comment “it will take some consequences to expose the flaws.” I went to a One Direction concert in Nashville in 2014 with some friends and practically had to beat the chicks off of me. It was easily 70-30 girls to guys in the audience. The band got them so hot and bothered that all I had to do was dance and make eye contact with one and it was on!

Three of us decided to follow the band around and went to shows in St Louis, El Paso, New Orleans, Charlotte and finally Atlanta. Same story in every town. Ultimately, there was a flaw in our plan. All three of us came back from Atlanta with the clap. That was my first, and unfortunately not last, experience with getting tested with a swab.

The whole experience really got us to thinking about the decisions we were making. I’m glad prospects are experiencing the same enlightenment now regarding NIL.

Clemson was never build to compete with NIL $$$

Jun 30, 2022, 10:16 AM

I think that's why the powers that be met in their legion of doom room and decided to use the one resource that THE University of Clemson has....sloots. Thank about it. What is the ultimate goal hear? What will people do with all that money? People want money because they want girls. Girls like money. So why not just take the recroots direct to the source and cut out the middle man (money)? Just put something thicc and hot in a recroots lap and watch the commits fly in.

Now we just need to get McMunster on board and not ban these abortion things so that we don't muddy up the process we got going hear. Anybody got any connections in that?

I think the allure of the transfer portal might be fading a little more than NIL at this point. Guys are seeing others enter the portal and not come out in a better situation and I do believe that is starting to make some players think twice before jumping.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Agreed. I'm pretty sure that young guys today HATE money,

cars, and especially girls.

I still think they like that stuff. They are just starting to wise up and realize that four years of exposure to Dabo Swinney is far more valuable.

It’s kind of like when you used to take a date to Ryan’s. Your primary motivation was to impress the girl, but that doesn’t mean you also didn’t love the steak and love the soft serve ice cream machine as well.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You have it backwards. I took my dates to Ryan's because

Jun 30, 2022, 4:28 PM

I loved the steak and, to a lesser extent, the soft-serve ice cream. The fact that it impressed the girl was just a bonus.

You have left me wondering though - how did you know I took my dates to Ryan's?

With all due respect to our very talented recruits this year

Jun 30, 2022, 11:00 AM

we don’t seem to be consistently getting the type of elite player that commands top dollar from NIL.

And let’s also not act like NIL isn’t involved on some level with the guys we have signed. I’m confident most or all of them have some NIL deals in place or soon to be, even if they aren’t the million dollar deals.

I beg to differ. I’ve watched hours of film on Vizzina.

If you don’t think he has the size and frame for the position, elite athleticism, above average mobility as a runner. freakish arm strength and can throw the deep ball with touch and accuracy, you need to have your head examined. He absolutely demands top dollar in the NIL market.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I said consistently.

Jun 30, 2022, 11:13 AM

I agree that Vizzina is absolutely elite, 5 star material.

Who else in this class do you consider elite 5 star talent?

If you don’t think this guy will blow a hole in the line to spring one of our RB’s for a long TD run, you should probably spend your time on the P&R board instead of here. I also believe Reed will walk into a bar after a game and take any girl he wants while making her boyfriend give them a ride to his apartment just by giving him “the look.”

That's how it's always been. There recruiting classes here, even during the championship runs, have not averaged as high of a ranking as Alabama, Georgia, Ohio St., etc.

Re: With all due respect to our very talented recruits this year

Jun 30, 2022, 11:40 AM

I agree 100%. Recruiting services bump up the rating of players after they commit to schools like Alabama, Georgia and Ohio State while bumping down rating for kids after they commit to our Tigers. It happens every year. I had Clemson at #3 in my own personal rankings for 2022.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Way, WAY too early to be making those proclamations

Jun 30, 2022, 11:06 AM

Its still new and evolving. I still believe that, barring any significant changes, once the high dollar programs really figure out how to buy all the best talent efficiently, its going to be a wrap.

Re: Way, WAY too early to be making those proclamations

Jun 30, 2022, 11:17 AM

I agree with PG.
Too early to tell but all signs point to schools with strong NIL programs will pull in a majority of top talent. There will always be outliers, but over the next few years you will see a strong correlation between NIL Power and recruit rankings.
