I’d like to just point this out

Nov 6, 2022, 12:57 PM

I was at the game last night. I am as frustrated and disappointed as anyone with what I witnessed. It was a very lackluster performance to say the least. It was literally like we lost the entire game on the blocked punt. It was weird for sure. The offense is basically just a little better than what we saw all last year and it showed last night. They seem confused, the play calling was awful, QB play awful, body language awful, etc. But the defense??? Where is the pride? They flat out got owned on the ground last night. The fire from this bunch seemed to leave with Venables I’m afraid. My point in all of this is… this team is a long way from the BYOG team. I feel as with a lot of things in life, success brings complacency. We have to somehow recapture the hunger and fire that got us here if we want to keep this run going. Go Tigers.

D is an issue for sure with the talent. But the O is an abomination. Three and out galore and turning the ball over with short fields. Playcalling is beyond atrocious. IF you don't have confidence in DJ throwing ball downfield, then play someone else. If the route tree is predictable, change it. If you need more speed...go recruit it.

We have a QB who is a great kid and a very good talent (remember Streeter has said he has coached no one who throws a better deep ball)...but unfort. he is an awful fit for what we want to do offensively. I cannot overstate that. DJU is a bad fit for what we typically do in our offense. That's a recruiting error on the coaches..not DJ's fault. And the WR haul outside of last years class is below standard. Not sure what we are doing there but we certainly aren't getting top talent in droves like we used to. Ppl also dont realize how bad that 2019 class set us back.

I said this multiple times this summer...Dabo is to be commended for adopting and finally allowing summer OVs. He needs to tweak several other areas to catch up. Not major changes, tweaks to get us on equal footing in this new landscape. He's had to make the tough calls before, he needs to do it again....

How is body language supposed to be good when our offense playcalling is so bad? Like 3 of the first 12 passes were beyond the LOS. Who does that? (Besides Rob Spence). How is a QB supposed to be confident when he's benched one week and then forced to play the screen game? How is the screen game going to work when the defense knows we're not throwing it deep?

I get that DJ has his limits but has had a decent season overall. This same guy (with better WR's) threw for 400 yards 2 years ago in the same game. He had 41 at halftime last night with little opportunity to get more.

I missed the Cuse game but I don't get all the Cade supporters. He looks far more scared than DJ. Constantly running and is far more reckless with the ball, as we saw last night.

Fix the playcalling. Throw it deeper, spread the field more and everything will fall into place. We can afford a few turnovers with our defense but we can't turn it over while also purposely not scoring on offense.

^^^I generally agree with this. The playcalls dont put him in a position to succeed...although he makes mistakes as well. They haven't put Cade in good spots either....

Playcalling needs to be fixed...but so does roster management

He's definitely not super crips at times (as all QB's are) but his play callers and WR's don't give him much to feel confidence in. The first half of last night was 95% play calling being bad and the defense only having to defend 5 yards of the field.

You are definitely right. DJ is not the entire issue for sure. However, I think he over thinks things. He’s too worried he going to make a mistake and holds the ball way too long. He did it several times last night.

There is no "over thinking" a screen pass. That's all he was allowed to throw most of the first half. In the second half when they let him go vertical, we started scoring.

I’m with you. The play calling was horrible last night and has been for a while. But I still say for whatever reason, DJ is not processing things quickly enough to be 3 years in the system. He holds the ball way too long.
