I would not accept an NIT bid even if one was extended.

Maybe the NIT meant something back when the NCAA Tourney only took 24 teams. But, nowadays, with 68 teams going to the Big Dance, the NIT Championship Trophy would maybe make an acceptable doorstop, nothing more.

For most teams the NIT is worth it for the extra practice time

Yeah it would sort of be like yay we are the 65th best team. Except we are not even going to that one. We are not invited to the not invited tournament
