Thank you Tigers! The effects of our win have already begun

Dec 16, 2014, 2:23 PM

making my holiday parties and family gatherings more enjoyable and even outright delightful.

About half of my extended family are standard coots (you know the kind), but the wifey's extended family, located in the ultra coot stronghold of Rock Hill, SC; are what I like to call "Super Coots".

They, needless to say, have been heartily shut down this year. About half of them didn't even show up for the free food, which is amazing unto itself, and the ones that did show did not dare to mention their beloved yard birds in my presence.

The only things they wanted to talk about were the Panthers, and how Conner Shaw would be playing for the Browns soon because he was "a Tom Brady like QB but with better leadership".

I just about fell out of my chair laughing, and they quickly scuttled off to another room.

Anyway, thanks again for making my family get-togethers normal again; the best part is I didn't even have to say a word, they know things are back they way they always have been and it's eating them up.

Now a nice bowl win over OU and a hilarious cockflop to the U are next on my Christmas list.

GO TIGERS! and Merry Christmas T-Netters.

...have never been spoken.

Just came from my Christmas Family Reunion in Hartsville. It was a pleasure to sport my Tiger Polo shirt....and I never had to say a word.
Thank you, Tigers! I never thought about it that way...but the win truly has made my holidays better than they've been in a long while.
Now...go beat OU!

I lived in Rock Hill for 2-3 years, and dang it was awful with so many coots everywhere. I'm glad we were still kicking their butts when I was there, or I would not have been able to tolerate them.

a disparity, but I think there are many more coots in Rock Hill than in Columbia; per capita I mean.

It has been tough going to that party for the past few years, many of them even four and five bombing the family photos... but I always toughed it out knowing the tide was going to turn.

Now with our win, and their local hero performing so well for the Texans ;), it was so much fun to quietly enjoy their shame and displeasure.

I think one of my wife's cousins even had to leave the room to wipe his eyes when I laughed out loud at his Conner Shaw > Tom Brady comment.

Grew up in Rock Hill and you are right about there being a good number of Gamecock fans there. However, Rock Hill is a solid evangelical Upstate city and because of this has a population base similar to that of Greenville and Spartanburg. Many low class citizens in Rock Hill like the Gamecocks, but there are many passionate Clemson fans in the Rock Hill area that make the trek to Clemson for every home game. Trust me!

I am not saying your Gamecock family and friends are low class. Want to clear that up. However, I am making a statement about the general type of person who lives in Rock Hill that likes the Gamecocks. Plenty of nice Gamecock fans everywhere.

My inlaws are Bama fans. At least they have credibility. Wife is from L.A.

You mean coots with Bama shirts and hats or did they go to Alabama?

about this town that there are so many coots here. It truly is a "stronghold" as you say. If it weren't the fact that Rock Hill is such a pretty place, I'd swear I was in a suburb of Cootlumbia.

Sorry, Tom Brady never sat on anyone's practice squad in the NFL for a season...

That whole backyard offense that he ran at USC doesn't fly in the NFL..ask RG3

Rock Hill coot stronghold?

Dec 18, 2014, 11:23 AM

Don't know about that. I know they had the recent South Pointe pipeline which has dried up but I'd say the people are about 45/55 or at most 40/60 Clemson/Carolina. My Scar in laws in Rock Hill also don't want to even think of the game of football but women's basketball must be the nations new top sport
