Granted, not all opportunities are equal, and I think the mess at USF was bigger than Scott realized.

But among the things I imagine he would say:

1) Be sure you know what you are getting into.

2) A staff position making millions of dollars at a successful program is a pretty sweet gig!

3) Lifestyle is more important than money, even if the money is millions more.

4) Any college coaching joy comes with pressure, but a revered co-ordinator is very different from HC.

5) Lake Keowee is a long, long way from Norman.

Regarding BV in particular, OU is a plum job, one of the best, but I think recent success in reaching the playoffs is going to be a thing of the past for a while to come as they transition to the SEC. SC is not perfect...but I would rather live in the upstate of SC than anywhere I've been in Oklahoma. Jeff Scott has a really nice place down in Tampa, and I'm pretty sure the Scotts have a place down at Boca Grand. But he has got to be miserable with all the losing going on down there. And I'm hearing via a connection to a player at USF that fans and players alike are starting to lose patience.

I'd imagine Jeff Scott would say he took a chance on himself and thus far it hasn't paid off in the record column. Of course every coach is taking a chance when they move up. At some point BV took a chance when he accepted the DC position the first time, and he took one when he left Oklahoma to come to Clemson.

Dabo took a chance when he accepted the job at Clemson when he would've been a hot name in the assistant coaching world at the time based on his recruiting alone. If things don't work out for Jeff Scott at South Florida then he'd likely land on his feet with an assistant coaching job somewhere else fairly easily and even again at Clemson if a spot comes open. The same would be true for BV. If he were to become a head coach somewhere and things don't work out do you seriously think he'd have trouble getting hired as a DC again?

Every successful head coach took a chance on themselves at some point by becoming a head coach. With Jeff Scott one could argue he should've been more patient and held out for a better job, but that was his decision to make.

I don't know if BV wants to be a head coach or not. However, I don't think he became the best DC in the country without being confident in himself. What I mean is maybe he's content on being a DC for the rest of his career, but if he doesn't become a head coach then I doubt being afraid to fail is the reason for it.
